I applaud this lady not just for getting out of that toxic environment, but for changing her ways and understanding that that was wrong. And her affiliation with the church was, in my view, not her fault. She was just a child, she didn't know any better and the adults tricked her into believing they were the "good guys". Right. I do get the feeling, however, that although we forgive Megan, she hasn't 100% forgiven herself yet, for something that definitely wasn't her fault (daughter of Shirley Phelps-Roper, growing up in an aggressively toxic environment). And I hope she does. She seems to carry some guilt around with her, which she doesn't deserve. But she is doing great things now (this interview and the book are fine examples). She will lead a terrific life. She deserves nothing less.

My parents are Anti-LGBTQ+ because they are extremely religious. I'm extremly supportive of the LGBTQ+ community, im not APART of it. Except we had a fight about it, and we arent as close as we were before. This really made me smile. What an amazing girl. She was raised right.

Megan deserves a huge amount of compassion for facing what she was and changing. That is something so many people just can't do. They don't have the strength to face when they have done terrible things, nevermind change. I have great admiration for her. For anyone interested i highly suggest you watch Louis Theroux documentaries on the Westboro Baptist Church. He visited them back when they were all brainwashed and in the same cult but also visited them again many years later when some of their members (including this girl, she was much much younger back then) left the church and how life was after.

It’s super-bittersweet, because she finds out that one of her sisters (maybe a cousin, I can’t remember) is going to get married, making the chances of her being de-radicalised is very slim now that she’s going to be under the power of a Westboro male.

Exactly, its an issue that God of the Bible does not support. Once you start hating other people you no longer have Jesus backing your agenda. My sister is lesbian. She is bullied a lot and sometimes gets physically hurt. She can come home crying, then just lay in her bed and sleep. I feel so bad for her. I wish she could just b race pets for who she is. I wish everyone who is being bullied for being themselves could stop being bullied. Sometimes my sister is scared to even go out of the house because she has this rainbow bracelet we got her, and she’s afraid people will see it and it’s charm that says “LBGTQ+”.
