You actually don't usually want to destroy the HRE princely elective law (even if it weren't so expensive to do so) since you can usually get whoever you want in charge if you play your cards right anyways and it gives you a really nice +20 bonus to vassal limit.

The Empire of Italia came into being during succession under partition succession law. Normally the title would have gone to your heir's sibling to more equally split the realm but because you only had one valid heir, both went to him. This may seem like an oversight, but I think of it a a surprise mechanic to deal with 20-40 years down the line when your new ruler is 50 and has three sons of his own.

If you control a majority of the dejure land and the title does not exist, then the title gets automatically created upon succession.

What you can do to fix your internal bordergore is to revoke absolutely every single vassal from every other vassal until you are the direct liege of everyone in your realm. From there you can grant everybody their rightful lands. This will generate quite a bit of tyranny, so ideally you'd revoke everyone before your succession and then grant them their vassals once you're playing your heir.

on my playthorugh on mother of us all archeivement i learned over vasall limit is the hardest thing to deal with. you cant leave it like that. because i lowers your troups about 60- 90 % what means that you are weak, what also means everyone will start independence factions again and again and again.

when i make really huge empires what i usually try to do is grant each county to individual unlanded rulers (easiest way is just to press grant to unlanded local noble), then grant the duchies away to apprpriate counts and then finally the kingdom to whatever duke is either most cowardly or trustworthy, the kingdom itself will be really weak and won't give away much in taxes and levies but it's better to have weaker vassals and get the majority of your power from your heartlands. this will both help with vassal limit and factions, since factions need to be strong enough to issue demands and the more factions there are the less power each faction needs

Can someone please explain how you are supposed to manage vassals? I was under the idea that you needed to try to make sure they are really weak, have the weirdest borders possible, and the very lowest rank. But in this video, he is making sure that each of his vassals have their own duchy, and I cannot tell if this is a strategy, because he is trying to become an empire or it is just a general strat.

When you have an empire, if you have lots of low-ranked vassals (like counts) with low opinion of you, they're likely to create massive factions. You could deal with this by having very few direct vassals (kings) with high opinion of you, as their own duke & count vassals cannot join a faction against you. It's one way of dealing with lots of low opinion vassals but there are other strategies also.

There is also a penalty for not being thr correct liege. So if you have lots of counts but you don't have the duchy title it's less levies and taxes for you. It makes more sense to have decent dukes who love you and give you lots of taxes and levies.

Make sure they have the same culture as you, same religion, and make sure they're content or craven. If they're ambitious with different culture and religion they're definitely going to rebel. You don't need to make them week, also make sure they are a decent Stewart rank to get you more money. If they have an entire dutchy but are missing some in enemy territory they'll grab the rest for you over time.

You're penalized for having too many duchies. If you have too many duchies, your vassals get a negative opinion of you. The more you have, the more they hate you.

I need some assistance. I spent my entire first character's life building the HRE. I accomplished it at 107, I have 4 children of age, none disinherited, all of my dynasty. My character outlived his heir (Chad) but now my game says I have no heir and my game will be over when I die. Any help is appreciated, I want to keep this empire together. One life, Holy roman empire was very hard, I don't want to lose it over something dumb

it's not hard to get recommunicated. gather piety, pay indulgences and grant the pope some land or vassals that's not too valuable to you. also while really unlikely to happen during Charles' reign but if there's a crusade, the pope will automatically remove your excommunication if you join

The game itself is broken and cant be saved because paradox is TOXIC to feedback, years of feedback. When your heir turns 16 and marries anyone, the spouse spends a year or two at your court and then disappears on a world wide magical mystery tour, taking your grandchildren heirs with her.
