The core of the issue is the over stability that Austria and to a lesser extent the ottomans have had since launch. Love the game have over 900 hours and I can’t think of one time that I actually saw Austria fracture. Romania does tend to form fairly regularly but having Croatia and Slovenia or Bulgaria from the ottomans occasionally pop would give the region a lot more variety.

the amount of times my opponent is "Fearful" in a diplo play and they sstill dont back down is absurd. its like probably 1% of the time when they're fearful.

I find they only back down if the actual number is either -75 or -85 (i don't remember what max is off the top of my head). Otherwise they really don't like backing down.

just so you know,they only back down if there is at least a non primary wargoal,else they always fight it since it makes no difference to back down or fight. (it can be something silly like banning slavery or removing claims)

You will typically get a country to back down if you have wargoals that are not primary.

When I did this way back when, I ended up building a level 551 furniture factory in Belgrade, supplying 80% of the world's furniture, employing millions of people, and literally draining the world dry of wood. Also this was back when having level 5 worker's protections would eventually cause weird stuff to happen in your economy because the wage you paid your pops would climb ever higher because it was trying to make your minimum wage your average wage, so those pops working in Yugoslav Chair Industries were *rich.*

If you want to delay progress on a front you are going to lose, you can split your army into single regiments with 4 generals each. Every general on defense slows the progression until the next battle on a front, so stacking generals can delay battles for months. The same also works for naval invasions, but far more effectively. When a naval invasion is launched, you have to fully control the attached trade-node and will battle enemy fleets until the have to "repair". Ships can not actually be damaged, so instead the Admiral attached to a fleet gets disabled for some time. When you have 12 Admirals with 3 ships in total, the Admirals will get disabled in turn with enough time for the first one to reactivate, delaying any naval invasion indefinitely.
