When PD said... "While a lot of kpop groups have done like the very minimalist soft dreamy pop sound for the english sound, because that is what's trendy. They want to create music that will express their true feelings, creativity, and explore more genre of music for Carats and for everyone to listen to. Thus, show their SEVENTEEN IDENTITY. Again. Seventeen doesn't follow the trend. Seventeen is the trend and trendsetter, themselves.

the mv is actually inspired by peter pan! they have no shadows and when we see a clock breaking in the mv they get them back, theres a theory that the concept represents them letting go of their youth and acepting growing up! just like in peter pan where the clock basically showed that growing up is unavoidable so the concept actually fits really well into everything svt were doing with boyhood and youth in attacca/your choice

Darling is the last name of Wendy and her brothers in Peter Pan. In the video Vernon and the members represented Peter and the Lost Boys. The Darlings represent the Carat Fandom. The shadows represent fear of growing up and Seventeens fears of Fandom growing up as well and leaving them to pursue other interests as we know in Peter Pan Wendy and her brothers left Neverland to grow up also he only pointed out one book in his reaction but there was other books The Lucky Seven. 7 being the number of Lost Boys in Neverland. Growing pains this of course the journey of leaving childhood and moving into adulthood and finally Peter Pan the storybook itself. Also in the video are the Teddy bears in Peter Pan the youngest Darling child carried a teddy bear. We also see Dino with an umbrella or parasol the second Darling child carried an umbrella. The books these also represent Wendy because remember she read storybooks to the Lost Boys. The watches and clocks represent time standing still but also Hook and the crocodile remember the croc had swallowed a clock. Also in the scene with Hoshi the engraving on the watch submerged in water says boyhood. The light Vernon is cupping represents Tinkerbell. In the end the fear and shadows rage in like a storm and destroy the world of make believe and childhood and crashes them into a world that is overshadowed with fear and reality. There is a sign on the wall in the end that says fear is coming. The new album teasers are leaning towards members personal fears and struggles.

and for all the people acting weird, pledis and svt literally explained a long ass time ago that svt would focus on Korean and general Asian promotions for the first 5 years of their career, so from 2015 to 2020 (which they did and successfully have Asia wrapped around their fingers) so they did start some western promotions in the west in 2020 but as pd said, covid got in the way, them reaching out was always part of the plan especially as they have quickly grown to become one of the biggest kpop groups, and they made darling specifically to share their art with their non Korean speaking fans as well as continue to set their reach further beyond their already established fanbases !

If I'm not their fan, I would've thought that Dino's a native English speaker. His part is so addicting, I keep on repeating it. His pronunciation w/ his words is just so perfect, especially when he's singing. I just noticed that even before their debut (their predebut days), he already has a good pronunciation and accent. darling is one of the few english release that has been stuck in my mind following the likes of 'middle of the night' by monsta x and 'the feels' by twice. it took me a couple of listens to appreciate the anti-drop but once i got used to it, i couldn't help but love it?? idk to me it feels like the perfect english release from seventeen, they didn't change their colours or genre to fit to the 'american standards'. so so excited for this comeback, especially after 'attacca' was a musical masterpiece. so happy to see u again pd, missed your reactions! sending good vibes always !

According to the theories, the lore in this mv is about them being Lost Boys (Neverland) and when they discovered they had no shadows they came to realize that the world they are right now that is all happy and fun is not their reality thus gaining back their shadows and went back to the real world. The comeback is the continuation of this I think.

idk if this helps but the mv was based around the concept of the neverland boys, they never grew up, and so in their "paradise" they dont have shadows. there's also Peter Pan books in the early parts of the mv that hints towards this! as well as in the crossword thing with wonwoo at the start, it's a hint towards what happens at the end and the new album coming up! it's all connected :))

And now with all the stuff we now about the comeback, it's 1000% tied :P We all suspected because of the sudden tone change at the end, and of course the logo was different too. But there are sooo many easter eggs. Starting with the shadow theme, and that book Joshua had (which thank you so much for the extra info always :3). The word 'Shadow' is also in the scrabble game during Wonwoo's part and that is actually the name for one of the album versions. The concept pictures for a lot of the versions are very reminiscent of Darling too. Can't wait! The tracklist looks insane as well. We have another legendary era approaching!

OMGGGGGGG!! I've been waiting for this one PD-nim. 😍 I'll be back after I watch the whole video. And tadaaaah! I'm back. Vernon as an opening in this song is really a bliss on my ears. Followed by Wonwoo and Mingyu and the rest of them. The one that amazes me most in this song is Dino, he is really good in here like his part was really made to be sang by him.
