I don't normally leave comments but i can't help anymore to say something. I am a 40+ year old Chinese from Hong Kong and a total stranger to kpop, except perhaps Gangnam Style and Black Pink (not because i love their music, it's just my 7 years old have to play black pink in my car). To me, kpop is just pretty boy, pretty girls, great choreography and a lot of sound editing, which is not to my taste. This changes when so much news on the net talking about the whole Hype fiasco and the new girl group - Illit. Out of my curiosity, i had a listen to "magnetic" and wow that was amazing. Then people are arguing whether they are copying another group called Newjeans, so i randomly choose one of their song (i believe is Super Shy) and literally i am falling into the "rabbit" hole ever since. In my opinion, as many KZbinr had said, it is the kind of "girl next door" vibe that got me hooked. You can feel the sincerity in every of their song and the vibe that gives out are genuinely originated from their cheerful personality. The friendship in this group is so real that makes their song so sincere and great. Of course, their mv are off the chart. I just wish Ador and Hybe can really sort things out and let these girls continue to thrive. It would be a shame to see these girls become the collateral of a power struggle.... Btw, my 2cents, i think the shot of Danielle filming Haerin with the lolly in her mouth inside the grocery store is a call back to Hybe Boy Danielle / Haerin version when Danielle just put her lolly into Haerin's mouth.

once you understand the genres they use you realise they are vey less 'pop' based and more 'clubland' based.. thats the 'newjeans' sound that i see 90% of reactors unable to explain...... its what makes them sonically sound so mature... since the getup ep they been using 4 90's clubland styles that are different but close enough to mish mash together... for the most part its 'uk garage' but mixed with 'dum and bass' 'jersey club' and 'miami bass'... up to this point they have centered around uk garage being the prominent sound.. but this tune is prominent 'miami bass'... hope that helps :P

@@valentineyves for uk garage.... artful dodger 'all about the stragglers' album... in particular on that album 'rewind', 'movin too fast' and 'twentyfourseven'... newjeans 'cool with you' and 'new jeans' would fit right on that album and you would just think they are artful dodger tracks. Sweet Female Attitude 'Flowers' gives 'supershy' vibes... miami bass of 'how sweet' give ghost town dj's 'my boo' a listen.. new jack swing of their latest song supernatural give bobby brown 'every little step' a listen.. watch the video for that because the choreo is so inspired from that as well.

Hi! About the How Sweet Video, I really think its smother than the previous ones, but that's the message in the end: "even if you face troubles like your car breaking down, you can still enjoy the ride and the adventure of it"; in a smooth relaxed way, as if the music video feels like we are traveling with them, they are with ous, in the new jeans way. The other comebacks are more energetic and upbeat, but I think that these rythim and vibe gives good energy without being artificial or forced, as well as bubble gum does... I'm Brazilian, and I was a kid in the 90s, and this song and the girls' looks make me feel REALLY nostalgic. Miami bass was the basis of Rio funk in the late 80s and throughout the 90s, so for me it's like going back in time, and what NewJeans does best is that this feeling of time travel is very smooth. It doesn't sound like a group from the 2020s simulating the 90s, but rather like something straight out of the 90s. And I think it's interesting to talk about my experience as a Brazilian because ETA also has a lot of dialogue with the original sound of Brazilian funk, so for me, ETA and How Sweet fit together very well in the sense of bringing this nostalgic immersion to me. These two tracks are among my favorites, without a doubt.

How Sweet is technically the title track since the EP release is "How Sweet." I personally will replay Bubble Gum more since it's lighter and has more addictive parts. How Sweet to me is on the level of quality as ASAP. Very artistic, kind of have to be in the right mood for it. It's probably not for everyone. I think they did this on purpose. Instead of going for attention-grabbing viral hits, they are building their discography with more style. There's a few videos teasing "RIght now," which comes later this month - not too poppy but super smooth. Assuming the label drama doesn't get in the way, I read they are releasing a full album late this year. My guess is this album will have a better mix of the familiar viral title tracks you mentioned.
