Hi Ashish, Hope ur doing well. Have question about perfect gerund. As u mentioned in example He is happy about having passed the exam. Should we consider perfect gerund having passed in perfect sense or in past sense like. He is happy that he passed the exam or He is happy that he has passed the exam. Which one is mostly considered in general.

Understand this. He is just happy about an action that took place place in the past. Now, if the time of the action is important to you, it'll be Simple Past tense. And if the time is not important, the completion is more important, use the Present Perfect tense.

Hello dear ashish In one of your examples, you used this sentece, Ron was exited about having been selected for trip. But if we change this sentece to, having been selected for trip, Ron was excited, in this status this phrase would change from perfect gerund to perfect participle beacuse it actually says, Ron, since had been selected for trip, was excited. Pls help me, it seems to me gerund and participles very confusing and interchangable.

Both of them are present participles as they are qualifying the noun NITA and John. A gerund doesn't modify or give information about another noun. It itself is a noun. Hope now your doubt is clear!

Hi, Rajat! A gerund functions as a noun, whichever form it is in. An infinitive can function as a noun, an adverb, or an adjective. A participle functions as an adjective only. When these are in the perfect forms, they show completed actions. • I regret (having kissed her). Perfect gerund as the object of the verb (noun) • I regret to have kissed her. Perfect infinitive as the object of the verb (noun) Note: when infinitives are in the perfect form, they only act as a noun. They can act as adjectives and adverbs in the vase form. • Having finished the food, we started watching TV.

Br Ashish Trust this finds you in good health and vigour. I happened to watch a teacher's lesson pertaining to Active and Passive voice. The way the teacher explained online could not be digested. Hence, I thought of getting the issue cross-checked. Please review his examples through which he attempted to convert the active sentence into the passive voice: He likes teaching. Active Voice He likes being taught. Passive Voice. Here (He) is a subject - likes is linking verb - teaching is a gerund and subject complement. If his passive voice is to be believed, the subject (He) wishes to be taught. While the active sentence says (He) likes to teach. A significant difference. A teacher becomes a learner. If there were students in the sentence, the sentence could be put in this form that could be correct. He likes teaching the students. (Active) He likes the students being taught. (by him). Hi, Jaleel. A sentence in the passive voice is different from a part of it in the passive voice. A sentence is termed to be in the passive voice when it's main verb is in the passive voice. Everyone loves you. (Active) You are loved by everyone. (Passive) But if a part of it is in the passive voice, we won't say that the sentence is in the passive voice. I like (kissing people). I like (being kissed). (Teaching kids passionately) is a great thing. (Being taught passionately) is a great thing. They both are in the active voice in both the examples. The second one has an object and the subject in the passive voice. Hope the explanation helps.

Sir, In the thumbnail u've given four examples of gerund for Summarising ur whole video. Examples were I love talking. I Love being talked to. I love having talked to you. I love having been talked to. If I say, 'I love being talked'......it would give sense but sound grammatically incorrect....but adding 'to' at the end of it solves the problem. Now, I am confused when to end a Gerund with preposition and when to not. I think the same issue is with Infinitives too(ex- I have a house to love in, I have a friend to play with) .
