F1 Strategist Ruth Buscombe joins us for the launch of season 3! Welcome back to Pitstop, the Formula 1 season is back and so are we! We wanted to kick off the year with Ruth who has been a great friend for years. She is currently on gardening leave but has worked with drivers such as Vettel, Massa, Leclerc, Bottas, Zhou, Alonso.. She is FULL of knowledge and we really hope you guys will enjoy this one. We love that we can get behind the scenes of this amazing sport and bring some of these stories to light. At the 1st race in 2016 she was calling strategy for Haas. Alonzo crashed. cars started to pit for tires. She told the Haas guys to stay out. There'll be a red flag. We'll get a free tire change. Which is what happened. They got 5th and 6th place. In the first race for Haas in F1. A legendary call

Alonso's (enormous) crash was with one of the Haas drivers. Only the remaining driver finished. Yes Ruth dictated the strategy but it wasn't a double points finish as only one finished 😂

19:01 This part was very interesting because it was very different from the actual strategy adopted by Alfa Romeo in 2023. I noticed in many races, they would opt for not pitting under the safety car. Like in Singapore, if they pitted Zhou under the VSC, Zhou would have finished in 10th. That was a very memorable one. But I guess they have many reasons not to pit, because they couldn't have anticipated that Alex would be Kamikaze-d by Checo towards the end of the race.

Fab talked about it being freezing cold in vegas. The Riviera, now gone, had a line of doors along the sidewalk that opened right onto the gaming floor. Back in 2009 I was there with my dad and they had to close all the doors because it started snowing into the casino onto the gaming floor. People forget how cold the desert can get.
