I think the reason Robert is so consistently fun to watch is that his childlike wonder at EV tech never fades, even temporarily.

It seems every episode I'm more blown away by the quality of Fully Charged. No better place for electric vehicle/clean energy journalism. I think the best part of it is that it's NOT a TV show and you don't have annoying station executives to answer to!

We've recently taken delivery of a Renault Zoe ZE40 and its a great little car which my girlfriend loves. I have to say though that Robert and Fully Charged are doing a much better job of selling the Zoe than Renault's UK dealers seem to do. We had to travel to another town to test drive and buy one, and even then the salesman wasn't particularly clued up on the product. The website was the usual flashy, unwieldy crap, so we got most of our information from KZbin reviews, forum postings and some chums that had the earlier Zoe. Renault have a great product but they really need to give the sales/PR people a kick in the pants to get more people to look at it as a potential next car. They're currently selling it despite their sales force, not because of them.

I agree with you. Just over a year ago, my mum decided she wanted an electric car. We went to the local Renault Dealer and they seemed keen to sell the Zoe but I was telling the salesman far more about it than he knew just because of research and watching videos on KZbin, it was ridiculous. Mum bought one right away.I love driving the Zoe but I won't have one till I can charge at home which means moving house. Also till public charging is made easier, i.e you pay for what you get and it's as easy as filling with fuel. I think Ecotricity have got it quite wrong.

yea, fuck dodgy dealers,

I had the opposite experience of others in this thread: good service from the dealer, crap from Renault in France. When Renault delayed delivery (5 months after order) on a Zoe 40 due to some technical issue they would only give a sketchy explanation to the dealer and when I spoke to customer service at Renault UK even they couldn't get more information out of France. After a further month of delay and no more info I ended up canceling the order, very disappointed. I wonder whether the problem with dealers knowing nothing stems from Renault's poor communication with them. The dealer was Bristol St Renault in Nottingham and I'd be happy to go back to them.

Jon Knight I quite agree: my salesman needed my experience of the ChargeMaster home-charge cable people to explain to him (after the event) really what they do (as part of the purchasing experience) and are not prepared to do after you've taken possession of the Zoë, i.e. NOT lift floorboards in your home to lay the high-energy cable from our fuse box to the box they fitted on our outside wall. So I had to explain to him that the ChargeMaster engineer came and left us the right length of cable; we lifted the necessary floorboards and drilled the couple of holes we needed to cover the distance; and finally we threaded it through from fuse box cupboard to the outside wall. A few days later their chap came again and connected the cable to the electricity supply and to the outside-wall changing box, which he brought. It all works fine now, but took a month for them to fix up the appointments and carry out the work required.

Brilliant to hear about second life. When I end up arguing with my anti eV friends and family, they always bring up the old chestnut of "Throwing away batteries is worse than my diesel Range Rover" Then when you mention recycling, they imagine recycling as smashing them to bits, melting down some bits and making foil takeaway tins with 0.5% of it. Second life. Brilliant. No smashy smashy melty melty. Just take it out and slot it into a new gentle life in energy storage. Perfect. Bring on the next numpty who wants to argue.

Second life of a battery. That's the thing. For who is wondering how that works: In a car the battery has to be able to deliver a very high output for a short time, like when you accelerate. This ability goes down faster than it's capacity. In it's second life, like as a powerwall, a battery never has to deliver a very high current for a short time. In this life it has to deliver a low current for a long time. So a used EV battery can be used for many years longer for this kind of purpose.

I have a 2017 Prius hybrid. It works out that around town 50% of driving is on the battery. It uses half the fuel that our similar sized camry used. I also use ethanol blend fuel which is made from cane suger waste. In Australia electric cars are still rare and expensive because our federal government is opposed to futuristic ideas.

Love it as always Just wish the Zoe had both chargers like the leaf. Plan to buy one in next two years.
@MrGoogle877 жыл бұрын
Peter Roberts It can actually charge just as fast as a Leaf with one connector: 43kW AC fast charging is nearly as fast as 50kW DC charging. Difference is that with AC you can charge it up to 100% full, what can't be done with most DC chargers. I own a Zoe, and quickcharge like 10times or more per month
@MrGoogle877 жыл бұрын
Peter Roberts Also the Zoe can charge 3-phases at home while the Leaf can only do a 1 phase charge, which is 3x slower. I can charge at home with 3x16A at 11kW or even 22kW if My household connection would be changed slightly
