This car is one of rare EVs on market that come as standard with 3 phase AC charging. Nobody is talikng about that. Ionic, Geman EV, they all have standard EU EV plug, but lower 2 pins are left blank, so they support single phase only. Only car I know that supports 3 phase AC is Tesla (and maybe Regera). Please start talking about that.

The footage was incredible. A real treat for the eye. Major props to the crew. As for the video itself, it was quite an informative no-bullshit, real-world review. I really enjoy that, instead of all the dozens of other reviewers who just read facts off a spreadsheet. Though I'd be nice to make a combination of sorts, and include a little more info about the specs/pricing of the car alongside the personal experience. For example, what are the safety features, is there a 'frunk', how much does the base model cost, is there an option with 4-doors, instead of only 2, what is the max speed/0-100 time, is there any information about the computer hardware used, things like that. I know you can't fit everything about a new car into a 10 to 15 minute video, but a bit more information would be appreciated. Still though, it was still a great video, love your channel. Keep up the good work.

I asked Renault via their Live Chat, about buying a used Zoe and upgrading the battery, as Robert mentions is possible (from 2:39 seconds in), their reply was: "Renault Live Chat: If customers wish to get the battery upgrade and the battery is pm lease from RCI you have the option of upgrading from the 22KW battery to the new 41KW version. The upgrade will cost around £3100, which covers the cost of the removal and storage of the old battery, and the installation of the new one. The cost of your monthly battery lease will also increase by £10 if you decide to have the upgrade carried out. If you own a ZOE I and have purchased the battery outright, the upgrade will cost around £10,000. The battery upgrade process is still being tested, and so it isn’t available in the UK yet, but we expect to replace the first batteries by the end of the year." Ouch, unfortunately not such a great idea. :-(

As a current 22kw Zoe owner, this episode interested me a lot. It does indeed offer those who can't do home charging, a real alternative now. However, I can't help but think if you relied solely on public charging the financial benefits of owning an EV in terms of the "fuel" costs would be all but negated in a lot of cases in the UK due to the frankly extortionate amount some public charging companies charge for charging (insert comedy noise here). I'm glad to see recently that this has been brought to task with a few of them and the promise that the UK Government is promising to "crackdown" on expensive charging. I look forward (whilst not holding my breath) to see what form that "crackdown" takes. In the meantime the Zoe is a fantastic car - not just a fantastic EV - it's a fantastic CAR! (important to stress that), and glad to hear Renault are considering a battery upgrade option. Although from those night shots I'm disappointed to see that it looks like they haven't really addressed the somewhat inadequate headlights...Dammit! Now I've ended my comment on a negative - er...I like the new wheels! :)

I, too, would love for this car to be available in the US. Our electric charging infrastructure is horrible so the added range would make the car more usable. Why, O, why can't Nissan bring this car in as a supplement for the Leaf? Doesn't have to pass any emissions, since they are partners it'd be easy. Again Robert, quite a great video and one I've been waiting for.

Frank Galpin The Tesla Model 3 will have allot more range in the smallest batter pack available compared to this car. But I'm sure this car is cheaper due to the size of the car. But I'd love a detailed comparison once the Tesla Model 3 has it's final reveal here within the next 2 month's.

The base price for this in the UK is 18K, the base price for the Tesla 3 is 35K. You expect better range when paying nearly double the price. I'm sure Tesla in the long is planning something like the Zoe, the sub 20k. I don't think we will see that come until 2020s, they got the Roadster 2 to do, which suppose be out by 2019, and a major update for the Tesla S is overdue.

had quite a bit of experience with the Zoe, through the car club i worked for. great little car, only fly in the ointment is the socket mounting is quite fragile, i noticed in the vid that there was a bit of movement when attaching plug. i hope Renault have spent a little more on this component, its a costly fix as we found out. fantastic to see battery development is really making V.2.0 a real world contender to fossil fuelled cars...
@charbax

Project Better Place suggested that you never buy the battery, you only pay for battery service, and then there needs to be a network of battery swap stations everywhere around the country. In 1 minute you should be able to swap the battery. I think consumer's anxiety is not just for the range, it's for the future of their investment in their new car. This just proves it, in 3 years, Renault doubles the battery range of their Zoe, how can any consumer be confident to invest in this type of car when they got here the proof that their investment could be outdated just 3 years from now? If Renault (and every other EV car manufacturer) just simply agree on quick battery swap standards (preferably few battery sizes that should be standard accorss EV car manufacturers), then if you need more range, or if you want to upgrade to a newer battery technology, then simply drive past any battery swap station, and according to your battery service package, you can simply swap your battery! People who want to pay a lower battery service charge can remain on older lower range batteries and they can swap less often, and people who need/want more range can just simply pay a little bit more for the monthly battery service fee! DONE!

Price could be something like €10K for the car WITHOUT the battery. But you should NOT be LEASING the battery. You should simply be paying a monthly battery service. It could be at something like €50/month +/-, depending if you want the newest battery range/charge tech or if you are ok with older tech, depending if you want to swap often or if you don't need to swap so much. That's it! Any user should easily be able to switch and swap battery ANYTIME they wish just simply by the app that automatically navigates to chargers AND to battery swap stations, if you feel like getting the newest battery this time because you might want to go on a road trip with the family, SIMPLY pay €10/month extra or something like that through the app, and you can swap your battery to the newest longest range and if you want to go back to the lower monthly cost, simply go back and swap to a shorter ranger older battery whenever you pass by a battery swap station again, this idea needs to become the industry standard. Renault as original backers of the Project Better Place idea, it should be a piece of cake for Renault to understand this requirement.

I'm certainly impressed at just how much regen-braking can get you back energy/range! :O

Whatever I say here, remember I am a die-hard petrol head but I also love technology and hence this: I really like the Zoe. It is the first attractive little EV I have seen. Interior looks amazing and the front is pretty cool too. My only issue with it, and all other EV's are the price. I mean really. I am a blue-collar engineer but there is no way on earth that I can justify to my wife and family spending $50k on a small little zip around car which won't even fit the baby's pram and accessories. I realize that EV's are today where Henry Ford's motorcars were when then masses still traveled on horses and carriages and that only the elite can afford it. I also understand the enormous R&D cost involved with EV's but it would have been nice to see this car priced at around half this amount to make it even remotely attractive for the masses to get into the EV market.

good video and car. the range is surprisingly high for such a compact battery.

The centre console is the same for LHD and RHD, that means the touchscreen part on an LHD is nearer to the driver where dexterity is better and the knobs/buttons to the right of the touchscreen are no problem. On RHD cars you lean further to touch and for many ( right handed people) it's not as easy. Not as bad as the 2CV where Citroen kept the handbrake on the left and never moved it for RHD production!

We need this car in the U.S. badly. I think the only way Renault will come back to the U.S. is through their partnership with Nissan but we really neeed this car. It will definitely level the playing field and Renault will once again find an American audience.

If Nissan rebadged and made minor changes to the styling and sold it here in the States, I think they'd sell quite a few of these cars.

Yes they can upgrade the battery! I spoke to RCI about my battery rental and they told me that for a flat rate of £3,100 I can upgrade to the new battery in march! They also said anyone could do it, so you could buy an old Zoe for 5k and upgrade battery and have 180 real world mile Zoe for 8,100. I've had my Zoe nearly 2 years and can't recommend Renault and RCI (who rent the battery) highly enough. I'm selling due to ordering a Model X but I can't believe the new battery tech from Renault now. When I asked about transferring the battery rental, it's easy to transfer to new owner, no penalty charges and they even said they won't charge me for my excess mileage.

You have a Sat-NAv, We call it a GPS in the U.S, and you got lost. Love it!!!. I used to use a popular brand GPS, It sent me in the wrong direction a lot. Love your youtube channel. I am still a gas burner, daily milage can be a problem for me. Waiting to see what the workhorse truck will be like. Think you can get a drive in a Nikola when they are built???

Nice shot of the internal pouch of the battery cell. All the fancy encasement can obfuscate whats really at work.
