How are hardpoints determined when designing? Can you help me with this?

Hardpoints for the suspension are typically determined by the wheelbase, trackwidth and roll centres of the vehicle and in a perfect world are designed at the same time as the chassis (dont make the mistake of designing the suspension system or chassis in isolation without consideration for the whole system that forms a rolling chassis). These parameters themselves are determined from standards, competition rulebooks, the ideal mass of the vehicle with the weight of the driver and position of critical systems such as engine/driveline as well as the fundamental axle loads/distribution calculations. Once you have these you can design a steering/suspension system with a desired stiffness to handle the loads either for performance or comfort scenarios. You also design the steering around Ackerman steering principles for handling and packaging/aero constraints. For example Double Wishbone or McPherson struts? Will the suspension fit in the design space you have? This should give you a few axis or points in 3D space that you effectively design your chassis frame around. The idea is to triangulate the nodes of the chassis frame to intersect at the points where the suspension/steering systems are located or should be mounted...
