@simoncfly No, I think they made a genuine miscalculation. The investigation found that pre race, both Mercedes were the same weight. Russell commits to a 1 stop, the only driver to do so, and is found underweight and Disqualified. It has to be the tyres. People are forgetting those things shed ALOT of rubber over a race. It's no surprise that 30 lap old tyres would weigh less than 15 lap old tyres. Why do you think that typically they all run over the rubber marbles to pick up extra weight?

So how come it still passed minimum weight at the podium weighbridge? It failed the dry weight test ,not minimum. You are not allowed to count fuel as ballast. So yes it failed dry weight test but had no advantage . Besides Piastri and Lewis on outright pace would have driven past Russell ,7/10ths a lap quicker at least . But track position and skillful driving kept both behind Russell and Norris behind Verstappen . Also Hamilton and Piastri had a 12 lap advantage on tyre offset.

A lighter car has the performance advantage no matter how minute it is. Many a driver has been disqualified for a lesser infringement. The cars may have been within 500grams of each other but one car was obviously using fuel as ballast and that is illegal. Even if the performance advantage is minor it is magnified on a circuit where overtaking is difficult. The car must weigh 798kg after the fuel sample has been provided and it did not. Give f1 teams half an inch and they will take a mile. Remember they read rules and look at what has not been said and exploit it.

Also, there are many excuses made, they keep saying it was a team mistake but who knows if it was. Why don't people consider it was a driver mistake as well? According to Mercedes Russell and Lewis were within 500 grams of each other. Well, if that's true then George may well have pushed too hard for the remaining tread and plank wear expected (both have been pointed to). That still leaves a kilogram he lost. Also, what if he had a lighter car anyway? Not saying it was, but wouldn't that be a spectacular backfire?! All this has took the shine off of a great performance by Lewis as well. One stop was obviously faster given George was P5 for most of that race. It's not like he was P1 or 2 with only a few seconds covering Lewis and George, Lewis led comfortably. A shame it's all moping for George. Also Karun's point is annoying, other teams were at minimum weight plus they had fuel, minimum of one litre is needed for a sample too, so he's being disingenuous. Also, that fuel Russell had meant he didn't need to lift and coast and ran rich the entire race. The rich part I saw on a forum so grain of salt needed. It's not just a case of he had fuel so he had no advantage, he could run flat out and that's without adding the performance advantages of using fuel as ballast such as COG benefits and balance. Oh yeah, and Lewis had just set fastest laps, but then he was brought in. Just a bit later Russell's radio goes off about one stopping. That strategy was super risky too imo. Of Piastri was any faster past Leclerc Merc could have lost two wins in one day (assuming Oscar passed Lewis and George was DSQ). Something doesn't smell right at times...

10 kg make +-0,3 seconds difference in one lap. 1.5 kg makes +- 0.05s per lap = 2.2 seconds per race. Not much, he would have probably won the race but Piastri in 3rd place was just 1.1 seconds behind at the end of the race so you could argue George would finish 3rd if he wasn't underweight even doe Lewis was faster have cought him but couldn't pass him in last few laps. In this sport where the difference is mesured in 0.001s and 0.1 mm rules are rules and you have to aknowledge them.

I feel that mercedes was using george russell's car Fuel as balice( Allegedly), that's why he was always 2 tens faster than Hamilton and if you listen to the race they told Hamilton to lift and coast in the race because the was no safety car but didn't to Russell so he could drive at maximum speed which help him with the one stop( but was hard on the tyre, plus when fighting with Hamilton at the later stage of the race that helped Russell to stop Hamilton from overtaking looking at the F1 lap times Russell was faster in a Straight line and Hamilton was faster in the rest of the track. plus it was so Peculiar, that Russell, When he got weighed at the end of the race, he was saying, what is my weight? What is my weight? to the young lady? from mercedes just watch the race ending on sky f1 if they don't edit it out. We will have to see what happens in the next few races to see if his pace is different, anyway Hamilton only has a few more races with mercedes Then everyone will be going red and price crash at mercedes if they don't get verstappen 😂

All cars where weight after the race. It was a clear cheating exercise and Mercedes knew it. Therfore they left a bit more liquid in the tank during the first weight contoll. It was only clear after the second check when the tank was completly empty. Toto said it was a mistake. Yes ofcourse when in F1 you have got every little data accurately. Ho want could believe that?

They were trying lighter parts and didn't expect to win, George may have used more fuel on his changed strategy, 1.5kg is about a litre and a half which I imagine is easily saved in the slow run down through the pit lane. What the aren't saying is just how close Hamiltons cars was to the weight limit at the end if they both started the same. The 1.5 kg loss of weight might have been avoided if George didn't race Lewis for the win during the last 10 laps or so. If George just let Lewis or even Oscar through his tires would not be subject to the high amount of degradation. George may not be aware of the loss of weight during the heat of the race but his team should with all the telemetry data available. Toto's rather weird expression on seeing the 1-2 finish just speaks it all. Anyway this is not a race for George to win.

the ones who said they are "cheating completely dont understand engineering. the only "cheating" possible is having george turn up his engine mode to "party mode". the maximum fuel richness. and that could make his car benefit against ALL the other cars are NOT in their maximum mode. what are the chances of that happening? they all want to win. you are saying george the only one using the max engine mode? also, there is nothing saying its a crime to use max engine mode in race day. so is it "cheating" if that is in fact the case? what could happen is, there is a clause in the FIA rule that the stewards may SWAP the tyre being weigh along with the car with one or more provided by the steward themselves if they deem the available tyres attached to the car is not by standards or missing one or even more. this provide a "plot twist", what if the steward were determined to make sure george car is BELOW limit? especially if they saw the weight with george's original tyre sets are just ounces above the limit? "hey do we still have that worse sets of tyre? put 3 in and swap 3 of his with it". and then voila! BELOW limit.

They are all intentionally right on the edge of the rules. This sucks for Russell but you want to drive for a Team pushing the margins to win. I'm rooting for Russell now!!!

Russell is a brilliant driver yes, but because the car was *_underweight,_* not *_overweight,_* he gained more than half a tenth per lap, which means he gained a total of more than 2.2 seconds throughout the race, which in turn puts him more than half a second behind Piastri in the finishing result. Add to that the fact that they were slowed down by Russell going slow and if the overtake was done before it reached the final lap, he might've been even further behind. The reason Lewis and Charles were keeping up with Max's RB19 at CotA last year was because their car's were illegally lowered. That doesn't make them any less brilliant but fact is that they wouldn't have come so close to Maxiepads otherwise.
