14:41: This is incorrect. Toyota did NOT have to pit for a splash of fuel. ALL of the Hypercars pitted once in the 40-50 minutes for full or close to full tank of fuel. The difference was the Ferrari was on a different fuel strategy because it had to make unscheduled stop somewhere in the last 2 hours or so to close a loose passenger side door. They also filled the car up with fuel and then did a final stop in the last 45 minutes for just enough energy to get the car to the finish. It finished with 2% energy left which would not have gotten the car halfway around another lap. Lopez also lost 15 seconds with a spin in the hour which aided Nielsen even more with his fuel saving efforts.

I think it's more impressive than anything else that Porsche and Cadillac were able to stay in the race and challenge for the win considering they were at a MAJOR (not minor) disadvantage due to their respective cars being RWD. There was a lot of great racing and great finish. But, there were many penalties or no calls that were questionable. And, the when the rain hit the track and the FIA refused to call in a wet track until a number of cars went off into barriers was awful. The FIA should be forced to pay the repair bills for that gaff. The 4 hour parade under yellow was maybe not popular, but it was bad rain and some fog for awhile. All-and-all, it was a fantastic race, that I really enjoyed.

I was wondering the same thing too. They lost a lot of ground in the final two stints. Earl Bamber and then Palou were flying 3 hours out from the finish. Maybe they somehow lost the tires or the handle or maybe gambled on a set up change with nothing to lose and it was the wrong move.

While I agree having AWD helps greatly in wet conditions, arent the rules that the LMH cars can only activate the front electric motors for AWD above a certain speed? The biggest advantage for AWD in poor conditions comes from low speed being able to have more traction coming out of slower corners

I think the issue with the leaking roofs was maybe intentional engineering. I suspect that they relied on aerodynamics to clear water around the car, so when the safety car limits the speed, the aero wasn't as effective. Just my theory
@yousefseed18747 ай бұрын
I feel like all LMDH should have 4WD too. No wonder the Ferrari got P1 ams 2 in the first lap because 4WD have superior speed than RWD that the Porsche and Cadillac have
@markhunt74347 ай бұрын
Uh, the Ferrari is just a quicker car in a straight line & they don't have 4wd till a certain speed(190kph I think it was at leman)

4WD doesn't have better speed, but better traction. This only matters in low grip condition (so, not at the start of the race).
@racer501_sb6 ай бұрын

Can anyone comment on why some of the hypercar teams chose to run LMDH (rear wheel drive) when they could run LMH (all wheel drive)? Why would you invest so much in a platform that doesn’t have the best chance of winning? Or is that where BOP comes in?
@lucaspiredda76777 ай бұрын
LMDhs are way cheaper to develop than a full on LMH prototype given the amount of 'off the shelf' spec parts that are purchased by the manufacturer at a fixed price, such as the battery, electric motor, transmission and the monocoque. Of course, you need a close relationship with your chassis manufacturer in order for the car to be developed as a whole. Also, because of the amount of spec parts, in order to be competitive, you need to invest a lot of resources in developing the software for the fly-by-wire braking and the regen. Even then, it's way cheaper than the total development cost of a LMH prototype. With the help of BoP, there's no need to spend more.
