Wow! I hung in there even when you went in the deep end talking technical about the brain! I was able to hang in there because of the past 2 years listening to Being Well podcasts, taking the Rick Hanson courses, reading his books and yours together. I also join him every Wednesday for online meditation and his talks! I also started meditation twice a day. So what I realized with this wonderful podcast today is, I’M FINALLY GETTING IT! 🤙🏼 And little by little myself is changing for the better!! Because of the Foundation’s of Well Being course I’ve also changed my diet, exercise regularly, found supplements that my body loves! And getting in touch with myself with the art therapy in the course. I will listen to this particular podcast many times and share it because it gave me that …ah ha moment!! So thankful for your who family for up leveling my life and putting so much love and peace out in the world! Aloha, Doris 😇❤️🙏🌺

Interesting and helpful! How does trauma, particularly emotional trauma not affect sense of self though? When severe enough is it not able to be seen on a brain scan? How does one, especially one who is neurodivergant, work through emotional trauma while trying to separate form the sense of self? I’d love to one day do so but feel I’m on the extreme end of someone who ruminates on their ideas (many very negative) of them self and really have internalized emotional wounds into being a part of the entity” that is “myself”.

"Is the I that we encounter in our consciousness made possible by the synthetic unity of our representations or is it the I which in fact unites the representations to each other?" (Sartre, 1936-1937, p. 23).
