Great advice!!!! I agree about the packing cells being really good. We went on a 6 night camping river trip down the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon National Park in the USA. The river company provided us with cots and a minimal pillow to use. I ended up using one of my packing cells with clothing as an additional pillow.

Hi Claire. Some people say that if you can travel with that small amount of carry on only for three weeks or a month……then you could travel indefinitely with that amount. Congratulations on being a minimalist carry on only traveler. It’s the only way to go. And you feel much freer not being weighted down with much more heavy lots of luggage. Best wishes to you and Jeremy. Namo Buddhaya 🙏🏼 ☸️ 🌴 ✈️ 🙂🇰🇭 🇱🇦 🇹🇭 🇱🇰

Thanks for the vid. Just to add: for some budget airlines, the 7 kg limit is for the bag + personal item, so be sure to read the fine print of one's airline. Also, in another airline/ airport, if the staff see that your personal item looks a bit big/ bulky, they'll ask to include it in the weighing scale. If it's over the limit, then they'll you'll have to check it in or remove some stuff. I often bring dry fit shirts (esp if in SE Asia) so that I can wash them in the hotel bathroom & they dry easily. Cheers & happy Christmas! 🍻🎄🎅🤶

@@ForRiel I have a huge coat with many pockets for "picky" airlines and have managed to get up to 7Kg of additional/heavy stuff in the pockets.
@DavidEHarding8 күн бұрын
Well done! Looks to me like your carry on bag is actually the size and weight of an allowable personal item for most airlines. I pack pretty much the same way and can travel the world indefinitely with it -- and, yes, laundry is as must so all my clothes are tri-blends which dry overnight with little to no wrinkling. Instead of a sling bag, I use an ultra-lightweight daybag that scrunches down to the size of a golf ball. I put this, plus my meds, backup battery, and liquids in the pockets of a rain shell (lightweight jacket) which I can wear if the airline is being dickish about allowable bags. Once in the air, I stuff the jacket into the daybag and Bob's your uncle. Thanks so much for making these wonderful videos! p.s. I noticed that you didn't pack any camera or audio equipment. Are you recording everything on your phone? The sound quality is excellent.

Most reasonably recent laptops will also charge via USB C (usually at least 45 watts needed). You could get rid of that heavy charger and use a single charger for all your devices, if you get one with a high enough wattage output. I even have a beefy (but flight safe) power bank that will power my laptop.
@ForRiel5 күн бұрын
Mine doesn't hold charge very well, so I need to keep it plugged in all the time. I don't know if USB C would work in this situation....

Thanks for this video. I wish there were more Travel Vloggers focused on the 7kg limit we face. Alas, in the US, it is about size and not weight. Therefore, I assume, the content leans that way. As a general note... Always check with your airline first regarding carry on allowance. Things change... So beware!

You are right, it's always a good idea to check with the airline. Things are changing all the time. Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks again for another helpful vid! You two are very consistent. I have a question...would you mind doing small segment on volunteering opportunities when someone arrives there ( like me very soon!). While there are numerous google results available, most ask for a payment to "volunteer". I applaud their efforts in helping the local communities, but would be interested, and would hope others would be as well, in other options to contribute some time and effort towards the Cambodian communities. Only a suggestion, but one I would be very appreciative of to be better informed on avenues to help the community around Siem Reap in various ways. Thanks again for your work on here. Always enjoyable!

Thanks Claire, Personally I'm a CFC (Cheap flight Conocer), AKA "STA" (Stingy Tight Ass) I will have you know... Anyway the fights I mainly take are Air Asia or Jet Star but my main concernt is I can only take 7kg total carry on, this is the total of two bags on both airlines. Jet Star does offer a 10kg upgrade but again its for the total weight of the two bags. The airlines are really cracking down on over weight carry on, I suspect because the Chinese is possibly taking advantage of airlines not checking carry on total weights, I've seen some people really struggly to lift back into the overheads, way way over 10kg. Do you know of any airlines that allow more weight than 7kg total other than Jet Star?
@ForRiel8 күн бұрын
I think the most we have seen is 10kgs for free. Air Asia has the possibility of buying another 7kgs as well.

Interesting and usefull video Clair Thanks. One or two thoughts... I travel far and wide and one thing I regularly come up against is the 100ml fluid limit, it's strictly enforced in more airports than not, your toiletres looked like you could get stopped and have to ditch them. Also toothpaste is still considered part of the 100ml fluid allowance. I'm a guy who likes to be clean shaven and it's almost impossible to carry razors in carry on bags, I've given up even trying to take them. OK you can buy locally but not always the kind that don't take half your skin with the whiskers. Your laptop, I'm with you on not being a fan of Apple stuff. MSI are good but my current laptop is a Dell Latitude 7390, 13.3 inch, very high spec and it weighs a tiny 1-1kg. Also the Factory supplied battery charger is smaller than the external hard drive you show, and, it only weighs 191grams. Used for both work and Photo editing and plenty powerfull enough. Both Dell and Lenovo have lightweight laptops and extremely reliable, perfect for office or travelling. Both worth a look. You could also consider some of the latest USB flash drives which now go up to 256GB or, the latest SD type cards which go to 512GB and are not much bigger than a postage stamp. Just my thoughts, thanks for the videos and all the best for Christmas and New Year. Phil.
@ForRiel3 күн бұрын
Hi Phil, I've flown with this setup, minus the bigger toothpaste, many times and never had an issue. I'm definitely going to consider weight when it comes time to upgrade the MSI, but for now it is what it is. I don't want to churn gear while it's still in working order, but replacement is another story. 🙂 Thanks so much for watching.

I’m interested to know whether Cambodian border control are ok with those decanted bottles of lotion, etc, in your carry on baggage? I haven’t travelled with toothpaste or deodorant for years since they started making us pack it all in containers of less than 100 mls in individual zip close bags. Merry Christmas, thank you for your informative content.

As always good vlog. I travel around Asia each year (from Sydney) looking for places to retire in 7 years and also take my annual holiday and have noticed the humidity in Thailand, Vietnam, Japan doesn't let cloths dry quickly. Is that the the same in Seam Reap? I am going to Cambodia and Thailand next Feb/Mar for 16 days and wondering whether to use my 50L backpack or 75L Backpack. Duty free alcohol can be taken on board the plane I think. NOTE I travel with Cargo pants (to fit charger, power brick, phone and rest in the the pants) , and use "money belt and phone case that straps onto my belt)... I also find that saves a lot a weight.
@ForRiel7 күн бұрын
We pack our sling bags with all the heavy stuff as well. SR and Cambodia are very humid but the sun usually wins in the drying game.
