Very helpful video! I got rid of the double-honk within a week of purchasing my truck. It’s a bit more complicated than the double- honk elimination, but I would recommend enabling the glare-free headlights as your next Forscan modification.

Well that is odd. Have you asked for help from Ford, or are you going to tackle this yourself?
@Easternoregon1Ай бұрын
I think the reason Ford did this is to keep people from leaving the tuck running because the engine will not always be running and you may forget the truck is on. If I am camping using pro power I just lock one of the 2 keys in the truck. May be some issues with that but it works.

Well done, interesting content! As a new owner of this same truck I'm intrigued by the possibilty of taking charge of all this configuration. As a computer programmer I'm concerned, however, by the downside potential. You address mitigating the risk of messing up and bricking your truck (now that's a big brick), being methodical and backing up. Very important! There are also security risks. Bugs in the program are inevitable, so getting confidence in the competency of the programmers is a first step. But there's also a lot of potential here for bad actors. Someone getting access to the source code and inserting malicious code for example. Also that Bluetooth dongle is made in China which always makes me nervous. I hate to be alarmist but you really can't overestimate the potential for security related risk.

I have heard of various folks doing a bad update and getting hung, but I've always seen them being able to recover. My opinion is that they were being sloppy with their routine, but not 100% on this. On your second point, I suppose it is possible for some foreign entity to be able to insert malicious code into the OBDLink app (no idea how they would do this) and potentially write something to the modules. I think there was a fiction book that came out about five years ago that detailed something similar. Perhaps we should be like Cuba and drive vehicles from the 1950's.
@dsopscak3 ай бұрын
@@fixorrepairdiy4609 Thinking about this more, I guess what we call the "threat surface" of the truck, all the places it's vulnerable to compromise, is pretty vast. The manufacturing process, all the parts, the service network, the fact all diagnostic devices probably connect to the internet regularly, etc., etc.; it's pretty vast. Connecting a dongle and running ForScan is a drop in the bucket. When China decides to take Taiwan, I fully expect a bunch of stuff to stop working and/or start working against us, including the Lenovo computer I'm typing this on. Think what just happened to Hezbollah writ really large. I wouldn't suggest we all need to drive 1950's vehicles, but having one in the garage for when that happens wouldn't be a bad idea.

Great content. Love all the videos. Do you know of a way to disable the auto start/stop in sport mode on the Powerboost? I usually drive in normal, but when I do switch to sport, I would like the truck to just stay on all the time. Thanks for all the great videos!
@fixorrepairdiy460911 ай бұрын
Hi Shane, there is an entry for "auto start-stop disabled" at PSCM/730-03-01 which is near the top of livnitup's "common" worksheet. I don't know if that is ICE-motor specific or also applies to the PowerBoost. I think I've had mine in sport mode twice in two years, maybe I'll do a little hooning on it later...lol. cheers

There is a FORScan code change to ignore the error if you unplug the sounder under the front bumper, IIRC. I just left it for now. There is also a pigtail that you can buy to insert inline with the sounder speaker that disables it.

Another really good video. I just did the 'fix' myself on my '22 PB and it works like a charm. Thank you! Do you know if there if there's a similar 'fix' for the double-honk that happens when you lock the keys in the truck? ......... I look forward to learning what some of the other 'things you can't live with anymore' are!
@fixorrepairdiy460911 ай бұрын
David, I would learn to use the keypad on the driver's side. Hugely useful...like when your wife has the keys and you're outside the truck and it's raining...or when you're outside and you need something out of the truck and don't want to have to go back inside just to unlock it. Big time saved my bacon several times.
@davidc812211 ай бұрын
@fixorrepairdiy4609 Thanks for the reply. I do use the keypad quite frequently. There are times when I prefer to leave the keys in the truck - most specifically when I attend church. So, at those times I would prefer to be able to lock them in the truck without having to deal with the double-honk when I accidentally forget and lock the truck from the inside door and get the BEEP BEEP when I should have locked it with the external keypad (it's easy to do from habit /forgetfulness). That's why I was hoping for a similar fix.

Will this void my warranty on a 22? Awesome videos!
@fixorrepairdiy460910 ай бұрын
I think it depends on the dealer. If you make this mod it's quite simple to put it back to stock and no one will be the wiser. Cheers
@hmata39 ай бұрын
Livnitup's guide says the dealer needs to prove that any changes you made led to a defective part, e.g. disabling a horn messed up a steering gear, for example. Such modifications that do void warranties are obvious to the dealer, and can be for increasing horse power or something else.

FixOrRepairDIY : Question, I picked up a FORScan usb adaptor for my laptop and bought a year of support from FORScan. I was wondering, I wanted to eliminate the doublehonk as you did but I noticed that Ford has been updating Sync4 several times this last couple months, such that I need to reset my viewing screen every time after a new download. If you are also getting these updates over-the-air, do you or have you had to reprogram the doublehonk cancellation or does updating by Ford leave that setting alone? Kindest Regards, James

Do any of these kind of changes in FORScan get flagged when at the dealer?
@fixorrepairdiy4609Ай бұрын
I do not believe that they get "flagged" at the dealer. The dealer can see things like DTC code history, but they can't tell if you've been poking around in the code. The only thing that would cause problems is if you make careless changes which "bricks" the truck, and they are required to un-cluster your changes. This won't be an issue if you slowly and methodically follow the steps to back up your changes.

@fixorrepairdiy460911 ай бұрын
Yes, the spreadsheet code takes some getting used to. The first cluster is specified as "xxx0" so the "x" values are "don't care" and any time you see a specific number, that is the value that you need to change.

@@babbitteb I don't know what the double dashes mean. From my limited experience, it seemed to me that it was another example of "don't care" values. I do know that I ignored the values in the "- -" fields and got my mods to work, if that helps.

so let me get this right. Your in park the truck is running and you have the key in your pocket. So its running on a remote start then?
@fixorrepairdiy46095 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. Let's say that you are driving and stop at your mailbox first before pulling in the driveway. You put the truck in park with the engine running, and if you have the key in your pocket the truck will double honk as you take about a step away from the vehicle. Pretty annoying at 5am unless you can turn it off with this mod.
