Love this place. The gliff at 13:50, looks like people dancing. A lot of movement depicted. I saw joyful dancing. What an awesome place.

Great video and very educational, I have personally been to Fort Piute 5 or 6 times and as far pack as the 1980s when the fort was virtually untouched and very few visitors. There are lots of Petroglyphs due the abundance of water. There is one petroglyphs that may be the same one in your video, but was closer to the turkey ranch is an early Spaniard or white man figure wearing a hat and holding a long gun/rifle. Quite unique. There is particular interesting panel; which shows 3 hand prints, small, medium and large, sorta like a family. Near the wagon ruts cut into the stone in the gorge climbing out of Piute wash/river are some spectacular petros. Tortoise, snakes, banding around the rocks. If there was anyway that I could email them to you, I would. Thank you for explaining the petroglyphs, good job.

Petroglyphs and pictographs are a form of rock writing. Once deciphered they tell a story or give information about the surrounding areas. They are more than just pictures.

Awsome! I did a summer archeological study of the valley where they filled lake Las Vegas on the Las Vegas wash. We found so much stuff and our instructor emphasized leaving everything ,even though they were building a lake over it. He said the lake may dry up and to take anything is ripping a page out of the history book forever . We also found the farthest north Intaglio ( the Las Vegas wash intaglio ) that did not get preserved and may have been built upon . Love your videos and Paiute creek is on my list for sure ! Thanks and keep it up.

Hi there :) When I visited and saw the "sunburst" at the beginning, I, too, thought it was a sunburst. Then someone from Explorers of the Mojave posted their photo of a coiled snake, and I changed my mind!

very nice! The 'gliff at 14:40 almost looks modern? There are some great 'gliffs here in Inyo & Mono counties to see as well.
@storiesbyalex7 жыл бұрын
Charles, thanks for watching. Yes, the 14:40 gliff could have been produced during the historic period. But, as with many of these sites the actual history has been lost in time..........alex

I love your channel. I like that you don’t substitute new-age bullshit mysticism for good old fashioned research and sticking to the facts... because the facts hold plenty of mystery and wonder without layering them in fiction.

Could the spiral circle shown at about the 20 minute mark come possibly mean 'water from earth'? Circle=earth/world, spiral=movement. Or even living or life giving water? I also think there was once much more water at Ft Piute, judging by the rounded stones that look like they were tumbled in a river.
@storiesbyalex8 жыл бұрын
+buympa One of the things I have learned about petroglyph symbols is that similar symbols, such as the spiral, are used by many cultures, but with each culture having a different meaning. For example, in some cultures the spiral points to a direction of travel. Anyway, thanks for watching and your observations........alex

Fantastic work as always! I'm enjoying these so much. If you're ever going to be in the Tucson AZ area, please feel free to say so as a reply here-- I know of a site in the nearby Picacho Range that's so heavily covered with petroglyphs that it becomes difficult to put a foot down without stepping on them. They're primarily Ho'okam, but there's a very large amount of Archaic among them; and nearby is a stretch of cliff that is completely covered in Archaic patterns, very very thickly. I'd be happy to show them to you if you wish. Thanks again!

Helen, thanks for watching. We now can only speculate as to what many of these symbols might mean as the various cultures visiting the site did not have a written history...............alex

Up side down people on rocks meant people died? It don't mean some white guy moved the small stone that it's painted on,.......to get his wagon through there? I watched a You tube video about chatahoochie and mayan people had been there and left the same types of signs on rocks,....And some guy knew what the rock markings meant. Any rock that a man can pick up or move is a rock. Any rock that a man can not move is a boulder. .

Went to explore this site spring of 2022. Someone had taken the rock from the wall which was sad but the petroglyphs were absolutely amazing on both sides. LEAVE NO TRACE PEOPLE! When we pulled up someone had taken a poop and just covered their crap and toilet paper with rocks. GROSS. BURY IT!!!!!!
@johnmeadows56456 жыл бұрын
if the army took control of the spring and denied the indians access, it would be ( in a moral sense) very wrong.
