Why did they purchase the 2014 and 2016? They already have the 2199 and I’ve got some inside info that the 2248 is set to return in 2023. They don’t need those 2 long locomotives with a turntable at both Fort Worth and Grapevine. The 2199 should’ve been enough.

Eh it's always good to have a spare locomotive in the roster. 2199 isn't indestructible after all, and it's capable of breaking down and needing maintenance like all machines

@@bummeroni I guess 1 extra Diesel is ok, but they really should not have purchased the 2016. Now when the 2248 comes back next year they are going to have 4 Locomotives which means that 1 of the diesels are going to get removed from service.

2248 will return to service. I was told it's due to return between summer 2022 to 2023. 2199 will be kept.

@@jonmiller7400 I highly doubt that. They’ve been saying the same thing since they broke it in 2015. Every year is a new plan to restore it. Even if they did, there’s multiple factors that will prevent them from properly operating. They can’t drag an their whole train + an FL9 with a locomotive from the 1890’s, and even if they could there’s no way that they could breach the speed required by TEXRail for them to run on the mainline. They got away with it in the past because it was a FWWR line and high speeds weren’t required, but now it’s going to be increasingly more difficult to run considering 2248 is a poorly maintained steam locomotive over 100 years old. 60 MPH for longer than a minute or two is guaranteed to right break the poor thing.
