I am off from training from training because of some problem with my right shoulder. I had great size from pretty stable training (12-14 years) but know after the long lay off and the bad doctors not giving a shit (because its bodybuilding and its silly) my shoulder is still shit to say it straight. I am so limited in what moves I can do in the gym and I also have lost the drive from all the negative things the last two years off. I had a strong mind before, but i somehow lost it when I went through failure after failure in the gym. Could your stile of training/frequense do me good when I am so limited. I have been reading your site but I npt sure that I understand how a fortitude program is set up if it for like three day a week and those muscle rounds seems impossible because of my shoulder problem. Is ther any way to work around that ? Best og luck to you
@scottwstevenson6 жыл бұрын
Thomas, I'd find an orthopadist / surgeon who specializes in athletes and see what can be done with your shoulder. I can't really say how your shoulder would do with FT per se (I don't know what's wrong with it), but one of the basic tenets is to NOT perform exercises that are painful or injurious to the joint... Just doing that for many will help with joint health, but those are most often cases of folks with overuse issues.

I'm very close to Scott's ideas since I read bryan haycock's articles and decided to use some of his ideas. I started to train every muscle group 4-5 times weekly, about 25 sets/weeky/muscle. My problem is that I'm using full body workouts and the last muscles I train do not get a great workout. Looking on the web I see the fortitude training and I really loved the idea to have mixed days (heavy upper - pumping lower and vice versa). To be honest, I thought about this strategy but didn't have the balls to try. Now that I know that a very smart guy like Scott suggest this approach, I'll give it a shot. PS buy his book, it is great!

its me I think you need to check out JPs forum if you think he’s closed minded. he has principles and techniques that he believes are optimal for sure- as we all do in one manner or another- but in those forums he repeatedly preaches about doing what works for you. As for Matt, it matters what happens on show day. I think it’s fair to say the improvements WILL be there. Take that to the bank.

Scott and John, if you see this post, I'm very curious about your thoughts on rest-pause sets as a staple in a program. Scott - In DC, it's a cornerstone, but why are there no traditional RP sets in FT training (as far as I understand it)? Is it because RP sets (3 failure points) done consistently is too taxing on the CNS? And that's the reason you do Muscle Rounds instead? DC followers get really strong doing RP sets, but are Muscle Rounds (with 1 failure point instead of 3 in a DC set) a better option for longevity and just as viable a cornerstone for progressive overload and hypertrophy? Wondering if one could successfully do a DC upper/lower split using MRs and Loading sets instead of RP sets. John - I know you included RP sets and cycled them with other intensity techniques in some of your older programs. But why do you use RP so sparingly? (Not talking about rest-pause resetting the weight, like your Smith Rows) Thanks in advance, mad muscle scientists!
@scottwstevenson5 жыл бұрын
YEs- the MR in FT was conceived to shift the stress to the muscle vs. CNS and other systems (endocrine, immune) that are taxed as the CNS is pushed too hard.
@drnaderafshari82266 жыл бұрын
So at the end, what do you think about this style of training John? Your opinion is more valid than anyone else for me.
@mountaindog16 жыл бұрын
Well I like the cluster sets/muscle rounds because you get more high quality reps then you would get doing a traditional set. For example lets say you did a weight you could barely get 8 for. Now what if you did, 6, then rested and 6 2 more times. You will get more volume out of it. So I think it is a great way to add quality volume.
@navoyvincentfitness6 жыл бұрын
Im not sure if it was mentioned in video, but how many rounds ? For example the machine laterals, after i do the 6, do I do another round? Or call it a day and move on to the next exercise?
@Drummersteveable6 жыл бұрын
Navoy Vincent 6 rounds. Reps on last round determines weight for next session
@scottwstevenson6 жыл бұрын
After the 6th set of the MR, the muscle round is over. :) Only 1 MR for given exercise, but, depending on the volume Tier you use (a function of how well you recover), you might do several MRs for a given muscle group (but different exercises for each MR). :)

Fortitude Training is four day / week system. On the last two days of the week you'd employ Muscle Rounds. (Roughly ⅓ of your training is MR-based)

Many guys will alternate between John's programs and FT. Ideally, you're switching things when you start to plateau, but advanced guys, from experience, may see this coming and do, for instance, one of John's programs (~12 weeks) and then run a couple FT blasts (about 4-8 weeks each in total with the reloading "Cruise")

@mountaindog16 жыл бұрын
we were doing a few sets of submaximal work leading up to it
@scottwstevenson6 жыл бұрын
Yes, submaximal warmups and maybe 1-3, depending on the exercise and previous work. (Might be just one for biceps or 3 for legs press). Only 1 MR for given exercise, but, depending on the volume Tier you use (a function of how well you recover), you might do several MRs for a given muscle group (but different exercises for each MR). :)

I once read a book, there it says that there is a way to manipulate newbie gains even though we are not in the state of newbie gains. ie by not eating protein at all for 8 days, then on day 9 we eat directly with surplus calories and protein is very high, then all the protein we eat will be absorbed by the muscles and we will experience a significant gains. (during fasting protein we keep workout as usual). Is that true?
@scottwstevenson6 жыл бұрын
That was the principle behind the ABCDE diet years ago (to some degree). I've never seen that extraordinary kind of a rebound effect demonstrated scientifically nor anyone had great success trying something so extreme. There is something to say for a post-show rebound effect, but but whether one can couple several fo these together to actually have NET progress forward is a different story... (Cybergenic and Rebound Training were two other programs based on this idea - googling them will get you some opinions. :) )
