We purchased a comm system in Spring 2019. Wanted voice commands because messing with buttons on the helmet while riding is not something I want to do; also easier for my spouse to deal with. The UClear was my initial choice, but after learning that the motion sensor was only on the top end device, and questioning the unique mic system, we went with the Freecom 4+ and have been very happy. Even riding with earplugs and modular helmets, it is plenty loud, and the sound quality is great. Thanks for another fun and informative review!

This is quite interesting. My driving school in Germany uses Walkie-talkies for communicating with students for Motorcycle lessons. Awesome video as always. Got a vnet in june, the volume is basically impossible to adjust while riding, and the power-off button is right next to the volume up button and DOESN'T require a long-time press. 50% chance of shutting it off. I found it to be quite loud without earplugs, though with earplugs it might be a little too quiet depending on the type of music or your partner's voice. Also, the intercom only works for two people at a time, you have to switch between "channels"... So basically, it's a 2-person intercom. However, for 115 CAD for a dual pack, it's still worth it imo. Plus you can share it your second unit with whoever it is your riding. If range becomes an issue (never was for me), you can always make a phone call. Sound is great even without a full-face or windshield (riding buddy rides a sportster and wears a Bell Rogue.

Sweet, I use my ham radio (Yaesu VX-6R) with my hand mic clipped to my collar, only downside is if I'm moving with any speed there is too much wind noise. I wonder if putting a sock over it would help? It's modified to work on FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies (that would be the ones that Motorola and other "bubble pack" walkie talkies you'd buy at walmart or wherever work on) Difference is that I get to use 5 watts out of a huge antenna which means I can talk much more reliably than a stock FRS radio which is limited by a little antenna and only half a watt, but, those still should have plenty of range for a motorcycle group. Bonus of the ham radio is it can also be used to communicate with other hams possibly through repeaters so it can also be useful if I ever need to get ahold of someone in the bush as a bonus I have a long roll up j-pole antenna that I can string up in a tree for even better range.

My personal hack for communication is the Sony C200 Bluetooth headphones. They are small enough to fit in your ears and have none of that annoying ANC. They are wired bluetooth, which means that you can put the remote control unit, which has the mic on it, at the front of your helmet and you can even whisper while riding and the voice clarity is hard to beat. I use an AGV K3 SV with a small chin guard at the front and I simply let the remote sit there. If I receive a call or want to play music I just lift the visor a bit and click the button and the voice assistance does the rest. This solution cost me 15 Euro and I cannot be happier 👏

Acoustician here, the SLM (sound level meter) readings at 04:37 actually seem to show different results. The Uclear at the bottom left is set to "Max", as opposed to what I assume is the average for the others. I would also question if that SLM measures average over time or just an instantaneous response. I wouldn't put too much faith in an SLM like that, useful for indicative ballpark numbers, but I guarantee you they are not accurate to 0.1dB

I got a Sena SMH10R in 2014, installed to a Schuberth C3W and it still works fine. 95% of the use case was just listening to music from my phone combined with GPS directions, but phone calls too were crystal clear up to 90km/h. Below that speed the people on the other end didn't even know I was riding. Only ever used it in paired comms with a buddy a few times, but it synchronized in just a few seconds to his older SMH5 and got a few hundred metres of range which was nice. TL;DR If you're on a tight budget and primarily listen to music, I can recommend a used, older generation Sena

Our group has now upgraded to Cardos Packtalk Slim coming from other Cardo units. The new generation is really good and we are quite happy with it. I must apologise to my Interphone Sport comms system. I thought it was rubbish, until Ryan rolled this video. It cost me £125 three years ago. A year ago I had to replace the mic boom as I have a dual sport helmet (25000miles covered!). Up to 60 miles an hour, with the face open on the helmet, I can be on a phone call or chatting with my pillion without any hint on the other side that I'm being blasted in the face by wind, whilst riding my bike. I don't know how good the noise cancellation is above 60mph as that is the limit of me being able to hear people talking to me. My Comms are easy to pair with up to another three mates, but they're all Philistines and refuse to modernise. My Comms also have a built in FM radio, that I use when I'm on the motorway, either on the UK or abroad.

I'd check Autocom's intercom, they're fairly robust, quite good and would consider them top choice if I were looking for this part of the kit.

I've been using UClear for several years and love it even with the old less powerful speakers. I've used it in the pouring rain with no issues. It's hard to understand why other manufacturers haven't upgraded to the state of the art speaker/mic combo like UClear. Boom mics are so 1980s. When friends call, they are surprised I'm talking to them from my motorcycle because my voice sounds so clear. IF the range is "only" 270 meters (almost 300 yards) that seems sufficient. So I saw nothing in the review to knock UClear from my top spot among com devices.

Love my freecom, I use sennheiser cx300 earbuds with it. They work well for noise isolation meaning no need for earplugs and they produce really good quality sound with the need to have them ridiculously loud meaning you can still hear the outside world perfectly well. They're super comfy and small as well so the don't catch on your helmet when putting it on. Top video as alway guys 👍

I mostly ride solo and at times, have a pillion. Been using v6 for like 2 years and 30k km now, and its still functions nicely. Ridden it through rain many times, and for the price I paid for it ($100 for 2 units + shipping) its worth the price. The 2 things I hate about it is the charger, it uses that 3.5mm jack thing, and its hard to find a replacement. I've lost one and theres hardly any online, and now I'm using 1 charger for 2 units, and I can't connect it on my phone and another v6 at the same time, technically you could, but you'd have to switch to which connection to listen to. Edit: I'd like to add you cannot really have a group talk with v6 as far as I know. You can have up to 6 connections (you + 5 others), but you'd have to press 5 different buttons for each rider, you can't listen to everyone simultanously.

I don't have riding buddies, so my main priority was voice gps navigation. I inadvertently beat a few red lights while looking at my phone screen to make sure i wouldn't miss a turn, and decided I didn't want to risk getting T-boned again. I bought a cheap 50 dollar set of bluetooth in-ear pieces (found the smallest sized and lowest profile ones) and they work like a charm. They fit under my helmet perfectly, and also work like ear plugs.

I have the Cardo 2 freedom but I updated the speakers which sound way better than the original ones that came with it.
@thomaswarren26995 жыл бұрын
If you want good audio for music, you really need some in-ear goodies. You'll never EVER get good audio quality from in-helmet speakers so long as they're competing with wind noise. I own a pair of Shure SE215's and the sound quality for the road is unparalleled. Well, actually, the only earphones better than Shure SE215's for motorcycle use are the higher-end Shure SE series. They have memory foam tips so they block out just as much sound as dedicated ear plugs, and if you buy the optional in-line microphone, then practicality is on-par with ANY of the aforementioned products. The 215's are a little lacking in low-end ooomph, but if you fork out a bit more and get one of the better SE series then you'll be laughing all the way to timbucktoo and back. Ride safe.

I prefer the Vnet V6. We have experienced a reliable range of about 1 KM. If someone becomes separated and lost, Bluetooth with a phone makes it world wide comm. Our sound is better than what is described here. The price was great, battery life acceptable as I went two and a half days without a charge. My set is three years old, been through a wreck and switched out to 3 different helmets. My philosophy of life was taught by a little bird which sat on my shoulder. It said, "Cheap, cheap."
