I loved the shit outta this movie as a kid. I bought it recently when I found it on DVD and was surprised it had Jeffery Coombs and Vernon Wells. In fact I was surprised this was shot in my country Australia. Say anything negative you want about it. Any flaws are nullified by the fact this is pure enjoyment.

I had the honor of meeting Jeffrey Combs . . . excuse me, Jeff, at a convention a few years ago. We got to talking about FORTRESS, and how Christopher Lambert is as blind as the proverbial bat, and that's why you see him in those "extreme close-ups" for the movie posters. In short, if you have a chance to meet Jeffrey Combs, take it.

Fortress!...I remember seeing this in theaters with two of my best friends. I only went because my buddy said he "loved these kind of films"... but I was hesitant because from the poster I got a "B" movie feel...I was VERY pleasantly surprised!... except for the ending which felt very rushed... now I know it was cut...I'll have to check out the longer ending. Thanks for the review!

Love this movie, watched it as a child in the mid-90s on VHS, then got a DVD, and all the Blu-ray versions as they came out, includingthe Germanone with a cyborg bust - one of my all-time favorites! Also really like your videos, they're like full-fledged 'making of's, but I gotta wonder who is the full story retelling for in the middle? For those that seen the movie it's pointless - I scan through it - and for others you spoil the movie entirely! At least add a warning and chapters so this part could be skipped easily.

Maybe a bad agent ? Or no agent? Or no one really cared for him in the US ? Oliver Harper is right: He IS really beloved in Europe (and Turkey) but mostly for his Highlander role. The same for Jean Claude Van Damme. (And Rutger Hauer too, belive it or not) .... Europeans had a good taste, but hollywood never delivered.

He should have focused more on acting in Europe not in Hollywood that gave him only action b-movies. I think language was one of the obstacles for major breakthrough in Hollywood. I advice you to watch Lambert in Claire Denis' White Material (2009). He was very good in it acting-wise. I think because he wasted his first half of film career on chasing Hollywood breakthrough instead of developing acting talent in European dramas, he didn't succeed anywhere that much (not in Hollywood action not in french cinema).

As much as I agree with you about wishing for a Batman: Arkham Asylum movie, I have doubts that a movie adaptation would match the same atmosphere present in the game from being able to directly play and guide Batman through Arkham, to step in his footprints, as it were. If it were close to the atmosphere of the game, the Killer Croc sewer part would probably also be the scariest 'monster' scene in a movie in years.

When this film came out, seeing it as a kid , it was very entertaining. It's funny i always compare and confuse this movie with Ray Liotta's No Escape, which is maybe 1996. Same film , one in a jungle prison, the other in a hi-tech futuristic prison. Both Great VHS action 90s movies carried largely by the charismatic leads lol.. Nothing close to Predator, Aliens or Die Hard obviously.

Trying to find another film (one of these films you remember from ages ago but no hope of finding) and came across Timebomb (1991) starring Michael Biehn in a sci-fi film. Looks like a laugh only a third of the budget of Fortress. Don't know how good it is. But it's Michael Beihn. The film I was looking for was a film revolving around "super trucks" - like Firefox on a v.low budget striaght to VHS in the 1980's/or early 1990's.... I just remember there was a good scene in-which a colleague died in the arms of his buddy on a remote highway that touched me right behind the old rib cage - no idea what the film was called, probably shit.

Yes Daniel. This was the most violent movie ever made. Until 'Paul Blart Mall Cop 2' came out.

9:30 But... That doesn't make any sense! Surely a policy like that would only appy to living children.

Fortress is pretty good, they really should've piggy backed it alongside Highlander sequels to get more eyes on it. Lambert with his eyes is great, but it's Kurtwood Smith that's legendary here. I've seen Fortress 2 as well, it is pointless, but I did enjoy it too.

Seems really clear the Narkina 5 prison complex from the Andor TV series is really influenced by this film.

i must have watched this 10 x plus. the days when you couldn't watch all the movies of the world at will. did the same with die hard 3, terminater 2, star trek generations and so much more. i think people dislike everything so much these days because they have so many options. its just consume everything at once.

Remember seeing this only once at the cinema, but didn't remember any of the scenes. Thanks for the review, I'll try and check out the bluray.
