At 11:50, go for Rh8+, exchange rooks, and start attacking Queenside pawns with your King? Black will need 3 or 4 moves to win white Bishop for the h pawn, White will get to exchange (at least) all pawns. Black's a knight up with no pawns left. Draw. Or not?

One interesting aspect of the game was after 6. Nc3 in fact there were 2 games in the data base of StL chess club with that position. However in both of those games it was White to move not black. So Nepo knight moves had cost him a tempo from the opening position.

Anand stated he would have offered a draw much earlier, but that was not allowed. All of the other games were drawn by 3 fold repetition, so the rule about not agreeing to a draw backfired, as this game should have also drawn.
@mitchellhouston80
@mitchellhouston80 5 жыл бұрын
Unbelievable! I just wanted to agree plus add that the "New Rule" is Ridiculously Stupid in my opinion! For example let's say both players are in completely drawn position, but one has way more time & decides to not play the exact 3 moves! Then what??? The other oppenet loses on time??? I mean WTF!SMH!LOL! It's like you said post game Anand himself said "he would of offered a draw like ten moves before the actual final position." So that's another factor now! Say for instance Anand was feeling fatigued, & wanted to end the game to perhaps get some rest & recharge in order to prepare for a potentially stronger opponent in the next game!!!???...I completely disagree with this Rule & it's a good thing I'm not playing as I'd be protesting in the confession booth! Lmao. 👎😠 Reminds me of the old saying "If it's not broke, DON'T FIX IT" 🤝🤕

@mitchellhouston80
@mitchellhouston80 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrK623 Right... I don't know if they thought this one all the way out. I'm pretty sure it's put into place as some type of deterrence for the player's to keep from drawing prematurely, but they could've just enforced no draws allowed before a certain number of moves, or better yet do it how they did a hundred plus years ago & declare draws equal zero points! The fact a player can not offer a draw in his own game especially as white is just absurd!

On a point of chess philosophy.... If we have a 'completely new game' as of move, say, six... but through a transposition of moves later we arrive at a position that is in the database again... is it still a new game? Was it new for a while but isn't any more? Is it new and old at the same time, especially if Erwin Schroedinger plays the black and white pieces? Does it become new again when it then again moves out of database...? When a game leads to, say, a king + pawn vs king endgame... they all have been seen before... so are all games ending in that endgame no longer new? Agadmator, can you help me ??
@danceswithstone
@danceswithstone 5 жыл бұрын
It's perfectly simple. If you're not getting your hair cut, you don't have to move your brother's clothes down to the lower peg. You simply collect his note before lunch, after you've done your scripture prep, when you've written your letter home, before rest, move your own clothes onto the lower peg, greet the visitors, and report to Mr. Viney that you've had your chit signed.

" If we have a 'completely new game' as of move, say, six... but through a transposition of moves later we arrive at a position that is in the database again" Agad addresses this in a few of his videos. He says something like "It is a new move in this position, however, the game transposes into a position that's been reached before, so we don't yet have a completely new game on our hands".

An intresting fact is the position has been reached after Knight back to c3 but White was to move! So Nepo lost a clear tempo in the opening but engine still favorites white!
@mitchellhouston80
@mitchellhouston80 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, very interesting indeed! I was curious about the opening for white in general myself. Post analysis GM Maurice Ashley said "Anand could've took a pass & still be in the same position" However, Anand himself said "It's actually a lot deeper than it may seem for white as the idea was to gain a strong center with better development despite the tempo loss" An so basically if Anand wasn't prepared/familiar/rusty ect... Which i personally highly doubt would be the case, then perhaps the position for white could be rich with alot of tactical motifs. So in a way i feel like maybe Ian was just somewhat testing/feeling out his opponent. Hoping for a inaccuracy/mistake/blunder. An that could of been taken as disrespectful to a certain degree being former eight time world champion! Ironically in the end we know who blundered & amateur fashion! Good Fact Nonetheless. 👌
