I was at this event, it was large but poorly setup, the master section had boards with two different style knights on the same side, so as an example you would have to your right a german knight and to your left a staunton styled knight. I was in Open and the sets were the worst ive ever seen at an event, cheap plastic sets unweighted, even chipped and broken somewhat as the sets were left out for children to use after each round and they would take them and toss them around etc literally throw them into a wall even when theyd lose in an exhibition game. I told the organizers and they did nothing to even try and improve quality at all. I showed my coach and he said the event organizer is well known for being one of the worst throughout FIDE. I was made to play in a room of 98 boards crowded together in an unfit room with AC on an artic setting with players constantly coughing as though on purpose as I tried to calculate. I played overall horrible even though their own GM for the simul congratulated my skill of play when I was allowed to use my own set that I brought which was FIDE regulated and much better quality allowing me to play regularly again. Each player who was strong or that beat me in the event lost to me in exhibition games where I could use my own board, there were those stronger than me there in the open section, but overall I shouldve been one of the top players after two full years of training and being able to play at the level I know I do daily. Most within open only just began playing chess.
