Shorter stroke, lighter crank, all the usual modern rev up quicker and higher guff, losing its niche and unique appeal. I bet the thing has no more torque off idle @ 2000-2500 rpm than a 20 y/o 955i. They should have not been sheeple and followed the herd in ever more bhp, kept it at around 160, but built the thing as an.utter torque monster. Its why the MT01 was such good fun and has since become an iconic bike. Good fun on the street = lb ft, not only bhp. Prefer the last of the round headlights, 2008-10. Simple, light, classic lines, no electronics, no stinking TFT dash, Brembos, steel tank. Bobs yer uncle. Cheers.

No electronically adjustable suspension is fine. You take the time, dial it in for yourself and then you ride. One dialed in setting for street, get to know YOUR bike and it's predictably. Save some weight and complexity as well. This bike seems like a big step up for Triumph in the naked category.
@caspianprince
@caspianprince 3 жыл бұрын
Watch how the supernaked class pisses away like a farty balloon, following in the footsteps of litre bikes and supersports before them. If Triumph were actually *listening*, they'd still be making 130bhp Speed Triples, but they'd cost under ten grand, and we'd all want one. Nobody wants 170bhp and almost nobody rides on the track either, but for some reason those that do seem to have voices fifty times louder than everyone else.

If triumph could make something to compete with aprilia rs660 they could be on to winner it doesn’t need to be track focused, a 100hp triple sport bike sounds awesome in my book, I think everybody is looking for the sporty orientated road bike so saying naked bikes sell well is kinda diluted by the fact that nearly all manufacturers range is made up of them. It boggles my mind that triumph can’t put a fairing on a street triple?

Regular scenario...Mr Mug Punta is giddy about owning the latest bike with “so many safety features you don’t need any skills to ride our bikes”. Salesman Arfur Daley gets Mr Punta to sign a 3 year pcp deal for a bike he will never own being careful to ensure the deal is in the interest of him and not the customer. 12 months after the 600 mile service Mug gets a letter from Arfur stating a yearly service is due as demanded in the pcp small print. Mr Punta, clueless, who paid the deposit with his credit card!!!, has only done 2000 miles in a year and, never paying off the deposit on his card, is a bit skint due to Boris n his lockdown lies, so has to have a £1000 oil change and “health check” paid on his credit card for a bike he will never own as he cannot afford the GFV at the end of the contract. So, Mug Punta thrashes the shit out of the bike (redline from cold for ten minutes the day the pcp contract ends), returns bike n somebody down the line ends up buying a piece of crap with, like it says on Arfur’s website, “one careful and very intelligent owner”.....should ‘av bought a ZX7 or SRAD mate!!!

This looks ok but all this design by comittee is a poor way to keep things interesting. Its great for sales right now but it means there's never anything new or halo which is what keeps people interested long term. The Rocket makes a good halo bike and I doubt they are selling like hot cakes past the first run so the excuse about a sportbike doesn't wash. The reality is it costs money to develop something competetive in the sportbike world and they don't want to go for it.

I genuinely believe this is the beginning of the end of the Speed Triple... no S or R model... going all in against the supernakeds. The speed triple was an affordable bike, and perfect for the road. I currently have a 2011 and used to have a 2012 R... awesome bikes and never that expensive. They're putting it out of reach of the average biker... if they had a lower spec S or R model priced at 2 grand less they would sell a lot of them and still some of the RS. Superbikes have been spec'd and priced out of the normal market and they're doing the same with the supernakeds as well. I make well above the average wage in my job but I won't be parting ways with it on a supernaked that is spec'd way above what I need for the road. .. bring out a new MT10 (at a similar price to the old one) and I might be tempted.

Great video. Think Triumph have missed the point with rider modes and electronic suspension. Most riders don’t mess with suspension settings when spanners and screw drivers are involved but are more than happy to select preset modes and even dabble with custom settings when it’s just a toggle switch away. Having firm suspension for fast road and track and two up or soft for touring, town and wet, just a press away is gold to most and now expected, really makes a bike dual mode, fixed, manually adjusted suspension really compromises the bike in most situations.... saying Triumph didn’t added it because of weight is BS in my opinion, it’s cost and time not weight.

I suspect they had already warmed the bike for a few minutes before demonstrating the exhaust sound . . . . . . I would have fallen off my chair laughing if they'd suffered the infamous Triumph hot-no-crank!! :-) . . . . Nice bike but I've only just bought a 1050 RS so can't justify a swap before I've even run in my current steed!!

Plus it has lithium battery: Done. Sport mirrors: DONE. And I believe Triumph says there will be no other exhaust choices (from Arrow--at least--their go-to) and it looks/sounds good stock/as is. That's about $2500++ of the usual aftermarket changes I do on every bike. That bike being a bunch of Superdukes. Is it really going to be THAT light? Cliff Notes: Triumph has my attention.

This would have been a great $16,000 bike but at $18,500... It's.. well it's lacking the reasoning for a purchase over the competition really. The likes of the KTM 1290 SDR, Tuono V4 Factory, and Streetfighter V4 typically all sell for below MSRP which makes the Speed Triple RS a bit of an oddball with less impressive specs in contrast to the competition and a less inviting price tag. If Triumph holds tight on their dealership network this bike will be a massive disaster to their pocketbook. If however these bikes hit the showroom floors discounted to $15-$16k they will sell pretty well.

On the fence about this one. Picked up a 2020 Speed Triple RS last year and love it. I kinda prefer the look to this 21. Not crazy about the look of the exhaust. Prob not worth upgrading, as do we really need that extra HP on the road?!

People are asking for a sport bike from Triumph with the introduction of this bike and engine, but the truth is that this IS the sport bike. Race Reps are Irrelevant anymore. No, it is not the replacement for a V4S to do track days on but being totally realistic, most of the people wanting this bike and able to actually purchase it with real money are older and already have their sportbikes in their garage or had them and got them out of their system. I am exactly the customer Triumph is going after with this bike-I'm at the end of a long line of very good sportsbikes and what are essentially trackday bikes. My garage has 7 bikes currently-five are mine and 2 are my Fiance's. My bikes include an R1M, a GSXR1000k5 bought new in '05, and an EBR1190RS Carbon Edition, which is an AMA legal race bike with lights. I'm 48 and like a lot of people, work for a living-my body hurts at the end of the day and riding the R1M means crunching aspirin like candy after a 4 hour Sunday ride or I hurt for two days. It's funny to think that the GSXR is the 'sensible' option of the three, but I enjoy riding it as much as the others and, frankly, not being as punishing to ride is a good part of it. Then my Fiance replaced her R1200R with a Street Triple RS last summer. Holy Hell, what a great motorcycle. It's everything I want in a bike short of a a good dose of top end power, which is exactly what this new Speed Triple 1200 RS is. For years, I have bought bikes mostly for what they do and not for what they are. That Street Triple is a bike I look forward to riding as a basic motorcycle than the ride itself-I love being on it, and I can't say that about my other bikes unless I'm going into or out of a corner at full chat. If this new Speed Triple is what it sounds like it is, I'll be selling the Yamaha and Suzuki to get one. ' The truth is that the lowly Street Triple is every bit as fast as my superbikes until the speeds get above 110 or so down a curvy road and even then it's not by a lot-not many places you can do 130+ in the twisties. The Speed Triple is the bike I need and Want, if they offered a sportbike I wouldn't care anymore. I'm at a point in my riding where getting the frame on a superbike to flex on the road is how hard I am riding-It's beyond safe and reasonable (for *Me*...you do You). Giving the Speed Triple a 180hp motor with torque everywhere will likely be faster for me and the way I ride anyway-gutting the midrange to give a few ponies up top and stuffing it in a race-rep wouldn't do a damned thing for me. Thanks for making this bike, Triumph!

I don't understand why they wouldn't make a superbike. This bike is $18300 in the States. That's 2 grand more than any base model zx 10 R1 cbr 1000 gsx R 1000. Triumph claims that those bikes are considered less desirable and premium bikes .However this bike is two grand more with premium parts. Thats a disappointing statement from Triumph. To say that there is no market is just garbage.

That's probably why it weighs 198kgs 😜 Seriously tho, I'd consider an underseat if it weighed a fraction more than the Arrow 3-into-1. The stock system was 15~17kgs iirc. Never laid hands on my original exhaust system because I ordered my new 2016 with the Arrow system fitted by the dealer, but it was supposed to be a "dozen kgs" lighter than stock. Then again a dozen varies between bakers and chicken farmers so... 🤷🏽‍♂️

So the bit around 6:00 where the Triumph chap is saying most riders don't want out and out sports bikes. That is probably so. However, what is missing on my 2020 Speed Triple and this one is a smallish half fairing option. I don't want a sports bike's extreme riding position, I don't want the bike entirely clad in plastic panels, I would like a bit of upper body wind protection. Something a bit like Suzuki do on the GSXS1000F.

Triumph clearly went cheap stickers way. Looks like a Chinese knock of. What happened to the classy heritage group appearance? I’m sure it will be amazing bike but it’s just crazy how they treat their modern crop. And if previous models are any indication you cannot really take them off as the paint under is glossy. One thing I’m glad they designed it a ROAD bike.

Triumph presentations are so wanky. I love the 44 team but you need to call Triumph out for ditching carbon Arrow cans that sounded great for that horrific baking dish of an exhaust. And it sounds great? Come on, have you forgotten what a good exhaust sounds like? It sounds worse than it's competitors. Give me a Tuono, MT10, Superduke exhaust note any day.
