Also question: Super Duke 990 for £3k used 890 R for whatever discount it's at 990 Duke full retail. I know it's a bit of weird question, but which one you think gives the best value? Are the 890 R & 990 R that much better than an old 990 SD for £3k or something???

To paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson, and answer the question posed in the thumbnail of this video: There are some things nobody needs in this world, and a bright-orange, warp-speed 1390cc naked bike is one of them - but I want one anyway, and on some days I actually believe I need one. That is why they are dangerous.

i had the first 990 superduke the longest of all my bikes. great bike and the orange tank light came on every 130 km. the flake orange glowed refreshingly in the sun and you were never overtaken. (except by someone faster) with the new superduke you can actually go straight to the nearest police station and hand in your license, with the new 990 you might have a chance of keeping it. want one, in flake orange.

I had mine for over a decade.. was my favourite bike, had it alongside a lot of ducatis, BMW's, hondas, yamahas and this one I would never get rid of until it was written off by someone pulling out in front of me. I agree completely with your sentiment. Min had about 142hp at the rear wheel, quick shifter, steering stabiliser, ohlins internals for the suspension. it was incredible to ride, so raw, stupid and crazy but the harder you pushed it, the better it became. this new one doesnt excite me.. the new 1390 though... well yeah it does. Im on a BMW R1250r sport these days.. the only thing I miss from my old 990 is that the raucus motor and sound. It has the same ridiculous torque and power deliver though.

Tripple better pull from three cylinder engine
@loztagain82784 ай бұрын
@@rideroll9609 have you tried looking at the dyno results for the 765 r triple vs the 890 r duke? I think you'll find the 890 had higher torque figures way earlier. Given that, I would expect the "pull" from the three cylinder to feel less immediate when you consider the party at 3k rpm on the KTM is already higher than the peak torque figures for the triple at 8k rpm. I guess that means "better pull" is pretty subjective.... Honestly, I am thinking unless the KTM on a test ride steals my soul, dealer support will be a bigger draw, and Triumph will win that where I am as I can walk to the Triumph dealer in less than an hour. KTM is about 80 miles away.

'18 765RS owner here. Altough I haven't ridden the KTM yet (I've ridden the old FZ09), I can tell you the 765 is not a torque monster. It's a very precise and agile machine that loves trackdays and you'll get the most out of it over 7kRPMs. Any lower and it becomes much tamer, for the better or worse. If you like doing dumb shit on the streets, I'd choose the KTM or Yamaha. If you enjoy demolishing sportbikes on the street AND track, the Triumph would be my choice.

This bike seems to have opened up its own category and i'm not sure whether it's justified. When the first 790 released, it was priced just under 8000€ in europe. This bike is now at 14.500€, and they make you pay another 500€ if you want to turn the wheelie control off (i can understand paying to unlock electronic features, paying to be able to turn them off is ridiculous). So this is a 15.000€ bike, it has almost doubled in price since 2017 (i know, inflation played its part too). The 990r will be around 17.000€ properly specced up i reckon, that's knocking on superbike territory. On the other hand you have bikes like the Tuono 660 Factory (11.000€), which is down on power a bit and i'm unsure how the Sachs/Kayaba combination compares to the WP. Also the CB750 Hornet if you want to go super budget, well down on power and the suspension is probably not worth talking about, but it's almost half the price at 8200€. Both of those bikes are probably somewhat inferior in a direct comparison, but i do wonder whether the price difference is justified on the road. Especially the Tuono seems like it would make spending the extra money a difficult decision. Edit: 765RS is 12.500€, don't know how i'd justify 2500€ more for the 990.

Its very close on paper. Just a few HP more, weight is very close. I don't know, I really like my Marchesini wheels and Brembo brakes on my 2008 And I flashed mine myself to work with my full Akro Evo exhaust which puts me ahead on the HP and weight compared to the 2024. Pretty sure my V twin sounds better. Its just too close to go into debt over. . . . and I already have a 1290 and another bike with about that much power if I feel that need. The 990 is in the performance sweet spot for me. Enough power to do whatever I want and light and nimble enough to still do whatever I want. Cam wear? I change my oil about every 1000 miles so no problem so far and I have 26K miles.

You need to be comparing the SP to this. The number of cylinders is a moot point as well because if that truly mattered you could easily throw the GSX-S 1000 in there as well.

@@lukaszg74 "Good suspension" It's the same KYB suspension with minor improvements. Yam definitely has the reliability, but you're forgetting that this is essentially a third generation 790. Whatever issues they'll have are unlikely to be engine related. On top of that the higher price most likely is due to a focus on higher quality.

Why? Because i have a 2023 1290 evo and unless i get the 1390 i’m not cool in 2024

It is too damn expensive the base price and you also need to buy tech pack….. new mt09sp is better bargain
@nicksokolis63434 ай бұрын
Even if they where the same price the SP would probably be the better choice. This is is £2k more though which is mad. And I just saw both in the Motorcycle Live and the Duke looks budget next to the SP.

@@brianglendenning1632 the brakes where ok on the previous version and the 2024 that just came out has Brembos so I would put my money on the SP having the better brakes.

@@nicksokolis6343 perhaps - the SP I rode had wooden brakes compared to the S1000R I have and the KTM SDR 2 &3 I have ridden. Be great is that wooden feeling has been addressed, as the SP was otherwise fabulous

Would you be happier if they just tacked on the cost of the packs to the purchase price? Or would then you winge about that? Look at it this way: KTM is selling a base model all the way up to a premium model - all wrapped up in one bike. The buyer gets the bike with everything turned on for a month to test out the available options. Not everyone wants all the gadgets and some are happy to use the bike in base trim. Others want shit for free.

Yes. Agreed. It's already on the expensive premium bike. Leaves a bitter taste. Sends me over to triumph and yamaha

@ 44 Teeth, i would 100% buy a 1090 Duke in future (upgrade of 990, if it came) . . because I believe the ideal engine size for a Twin is 900-1100cc (450-525cc per cylinder) even though I own 2022 Gen 3 Hayabusa (335cc per cylinder) ... & ... 2023 XDiavel 1260 V2 (630cc per cylinder) ... & ... Trident 660 (220cc per cylinder) ... & ... Scrambler 400X (single) ... and none of those match the ideal capacity per cylinder. I wish my Busa was minimum 1800 to max 2100cc So when you say the 1890 is around the corner, it should not be a V2 but V4 . . . basically an upgrade of Yamaha VMax 1700 V4 .... and even an air-cooled V4 would do, . . . no Radiator for aesthetics...! Largest Liquid-cooled V2 = Suzuki Intruder M1800R BOSS (BOULEVARD M109R) Largest Air-cooled V2 = ARCH Method 143ci (2343cc)

390 and lower are made in India with collaboration with Bajaj Auto. 790 is china (So far) but here was an article where ktm is shifting more assembly to china so its quite possible some of the other models might get shifted to china.
