I like the way Yamaha is doing the CP2 family of bikes. The R7, T7, MT/FZ. They put the solid money on the stuff you can't easily do aftermarket, and then definitely cheaped out on the rest. Let people get in cheap if thats what they can afford, but have a solid platform to get crazy with if you want.

The general public's reception to the R7 still baffles me. People pine over the SV650 and complain about how old it is in the same breath AND it's still somehow one of the most popular track day bikes in the US. The paddock is littered with them you're fucking tripping over SV650s. Yamaha comes and makes an SV650 that isn't from 2008 and everyone shits all over it. Wtf?
@crc08892 жыл бұрын
Cos it's not a £2k nostalgia inducing cheapy sv650. It's an £8k 89bhp brand new bike that is supposed to replace the 130bhp, world championship winning, revvy screamer of the R6. People who didn't want an sv650 had plenty of choice of 600s, including its bigger bro, gsxr 600. People who don't want the R7 have the choice of....what? A 200bhp R1 for like £20k?

I'm sick of hearing the "R7" is the second coming. It's not. Its a commuter bike in a frock. My MSX is better than my busa around a car park but its hard to say its a better bike. Saying that half assed effort is anything like as good as the ground up designed to be fast R6 or R1 is just daft. Maybe at low speeds around a daft track it could compete with them but anywhere there is a straight its going to get dropped like a 10-pinter the morning after. When it needs £7k thrown at it to be competetive the old SV idea is looking like a bargain.

"No way, I always liked them. Is it an old one, are they making them again?" "No, no. They made a 700 twin with half the power of the R6 and called it R7." "What? Is it like a Kawasaki ER6N?"
