I only know motocross, but it's amazing how much mucking about people will do trying to keep the front up before they just up the spring weight. Has to be worse in RR, where you spend longer periods on the brakes. Damping will not hold you up, just slow the sink. Springs hold the bike up. If it needs to be held up more, more spring is the only way. Small changes yield big improvements & if you take too big a bite, you can mix springs. It is all so easy, effective, and inexpensive. Why do people seemingly try to deny this?

Really interesting vid guys. That was most definitely an education! Also goes to show you don't need to go nuts & spend loads on all the blingey bits to make tangible differences. The brake set up part was particularly enlightening as everyone immediately says get a new master cylinder etc but this budget way seems like a sensible & cost effective place to start first.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that pushing those big mirrors through the air at 150 mph consumes roughly 8-12 Hp. Try removing them, I did on my17000 mile 2002 R1. The difference on the Isle of Man and in Germany was noticeable. A very cheap mod and weight saving. Another absorbing feature, thanks to all at 44Teeth.

James being super professional and polite. Why not just try his superstock geometry and spec the paretos (80/20 rule) components like the seat, pads, and bars? The lift sensor has gone too i guess as part of the abs delete? Might explain the brake releasing if the rear wheel lifts.

Question for my motorcycle gurus: I have an old barn-find K3 GSX-R 750. I've opened up the clip-ons as far as I could, but I get mega mega shoulder fatigue. It's been 3 trackdays and I just get super tired. Would you say it's the suit that is tight, or the clip-ons not big enough? I'm 180CM 90KGS. Difficult to answer I know but I'm slightly puzzled. Thank you darlings!

8:47 “a lot more fluid that can compress”. Really? I thought fluids were virtually incompressible: “while in practice and in most considerations hydraulic fluid is incompressible, in theory it is possible to compress in extreme temperatures and pressures.” Do you get “extreme temperatures and pressures” from squeezing a brake lever?
@emerel
@emerel Жыл бұрын
When brake fluid reaches its boiling point and on the track most likely will it start to vapor and create the air bubbles in the system hence there’s different types of fluids designed for the right purpose 🤷‍♂️

@Pablo__D
@Pablo__D Жыл бұрын
@@malcellison8831 I think James meant, in realtion to the ABS, that there is a lot more fluid to 'pressurise' in the long lines of the system ie actuate the pistons. The bike straight from the factory is running DOT4 brake fluid - perfect for bumbling around or a spirited sunday run where it is not getting too hot. Race fluid is DOT5(more expensive) and can stand the high temperatures(heat transfer from the pads to pistons and to the fluid itself) better and for longer without degradation. Brake fluid is hygroscopic ie absorbs water which will generate air bubbles when the water turns to steam in a system at high temps. Most teams change out the DOT5 regularly to avoid any compromise......

Whoa! Did I hear that right? You aren’t allowed to run a full exhaust system on UK tracks!???
@Pablo__D
@Pablo__D Жыл бұрын
Depends on the track and what day of the week and who is running the race day etc etc Most UK tracks are 105dB limit which is easily hit with half/full system. Full systems normally require a dD killer/insert to comply at most track days. BSB is somewhat different ie biggest UK racing organisation gets to run slightly louder : 'The noise limit for Superbikes is 107 dB/A (with a 3 dB/A tolerance after the race). There is also an equipment tolerance of 2dB/A, the actual maximum reading before race or practice is 109 dB/A and after race or Practice 112dB/A' Not sure what BSB 600cc dB limit is but I cant see it being less than the Superbike limit. Most 600's are running full systems.
@Vibrotronic
@Vibrotronic Жыл бұрын
@@Pablo__D Oh ok, nice. Thanks for the great explanation. There’s no db limit at my local ish track however, if someone were to come out there with a horrendously obnoxious straight pipe exhaust, I’m mostly sure race tech would not pass them to ride.
@Pablo__D
@Pablo__D Жыл бұрын
@@Vibrotronic My pleasure. I did some racing in the UK. The test was normally done (At the club I raced at) with a hand held dB meter at a angle of 45degrees to the exhaust at 1.5m distance at circa 6000rpm (if I remember rightly) and 'everyone' would be trying not to over rev it so as not fail..... ;-)

@@Pablo__D Yes, that is the FIM standard although Revs should vary by Capacity (if I remember rightly). Brands Hatch always the hardest to pass...
@lonpfrb
@lonpfrb 11 ай бұрын
@@Vibrotronic The problem we have is that with every version of Euro standard they decrease the allowed dB(A) and the local authority Environmental Health (Noise Police) lower the track licence limits to match. This is obviously ridiculous because it pretends that people only have new bikes. Sustainability! Brands Hatch circuit was racing in 1920 so there is absolutely nobody who lives there who wasn't aware of that when they bought their cheap house next to the Circuit. Like a cheap house next to the Airport, it's nonsense to suggest that noise is not normal and expected.
