The boys said I should ride in the unimog, so i gladly accepted ;) Today I am all about sunshine and would never want to ride anywhere near the conditions you found yourselves in. I did Holland - Austria and back over 72 hours through a torrential downpour, in a perforated one piece race suit in late May 2013. It was nonstop 130mph+ in 3C weather and harsh rain on an R1. It sits lonely at the top of the most reckless and awful experiences I've ever done in my life, never mind motorcycling related. Visibility was dangerously poor, I had no cash money nor do I speak German, and in one particular bend I actually lost the front for an inch or two before it came back. Then I slowed down to 100mph. No matter how hard you try, winter and bikes just do not mix. You can butt heads with the elements all you like, but it doesn't matter. You were right to park it. Cold + bikes = bad time. Snow + bikes = worse.
@madbull46665 жыл бұрын
I'm not surprised you almost lost the front end going 130mph in a downpour in 3c weather.

One of the worst but simultaneously best rides of my life was in Scotland. The day started out beautifully, a bit chilly with 10-15 degrees C but sunny. Was just wearing leathers, no winter gear at all as it was in JUNE (2012). During the ride back to Edinburgh (together with one of my colleagues) from the borders to catch the ferry back to The Netherlands, it started raining. It was like frikkin ice rain. So cold. The temp of the bike (GSX-R 750k9) dropped to below 50 degrees, never had that happen before. When we reached the ferry, I think I was close to hypothermia. My shoulders were seized up, my hands and fore arms were greyish blue. Could hardly get my papers out of my bag or off the bike and my leathers off. Had a 45 minute shower in my cabin just to warm up again. Looking back at it, as miserable as we both felt right there and then, it was still one of the best rides of my life.

My biggest concern is also other traffic in the snow. Your stopping distances are ten times what they are in good weather. That means your two second gap needs to be TWENTY seconds. So if you fall off, Fiona Fiat or Barry BMW who is probably driving too close behind will not be able to stop in time.
