In Belgium there is a set speed for lane splitting which is 50km/h and also a limit for speed difference which is 20km/h. So basically if the cars are standing still you are allowed to do 20 km/h and if they going 30km/h you can do 50 km/h. After the traffic moves 50 km/h you need to get back on your lane Forgot to say how great your shit is once again 🤌
@callummclachlan47719 ай бұрын
Yeah. Various country by country. In Australia you can only legally do it when cars are moving under 20 km/h.

Did years and years commuting between Antwerp-Brussels-Antwerp which equals on 3-4 lane traffic jams for about 45km one way (both by bike and car). When driving a car "on the fast lane = left lane" and you see bike in the mirrors I would always give a tap on the turning signal to the left and move far left to give space so they can see you saw them coming. (right side traffic here and splitting is only done on the side of the "fast lane". if that makes sense. If you use the shoulder/emergency lane you will get a ticket right away. You can actually see which car drivers also ride bikes
@bikermike_mars13729 ай бұрын
Having an acceptable speed is better than nothing, but I don’t think even that is necessary. If drivers are paying attention, as they should, a passing bike should be noticeable. I also put responsibility on the bike to slow down if they see a car ahead indicating for some time before manoeuvre.

I do get your point of lane splitting. But problem in Germany is, it's forbidden. And doing so in the rescue lane can cost you of 200 euros I believe. So yes I get it, but it's forbidden. Germany loves their rules, but no lane filtering makes no sense.

Hey up lads! Love your vids. I'm from Yorkshire and I live in Deutschland. It's illegal to lane split here. If you come upon a traffic jam, it is acceptable to drive through at a slightly faster pace than slow moving vehicles. If cars etc. are stationary, then pass by very slow. Best to put your hazard lights on. In case of an accident you don't have a leg to stand on (pardon the pun Boothy). God I bloody love these BBBs.

You got lucky in Germany lane splitting, because its completely forbidden to do. And can get quite expensive if you are caught. So its understandable that they got upset, since you are in the emergency lane and every German knows you cant ride there. Not every country in Europe its legal to do, and i know from first hand getting stuck in a traffic jam in Germany. While being wet form heavy rain right before. As much as i wanted to lane split to get to my hotel and get dry, i knew i would risk a hefty fine if i got caught. In the Netherlands, by law its forbidden, but it is allowed to do. As long as you are keeping like a 10 km/h difference with traffic till you are going about 50km/h (officially). Since the past years traffic jams here are getting to be more of a rolling traffic jam. And people make a mess of it, as long as you are not driving like crazy and keeping safe, splitting isn't really frowned upon.

Don't use the rescue lane in Germany! Use the emergency lane that way you only risk a fine instead of losing your license for at least a month. Friend of mine (doctor) was called into hospital to perform surgery in an emergency and filtered using the rescue lane. He was stopped, lost his license and the kid was already dead when he finally arrived at the hospital. Sad but that's Germany for you. They throw sticks to stumble on in front of themselves.

German police have no authority to take a UK licence and/or apply any points to it. If they physically take your licence it means nothing, you just get a replacement when you return to the UK.

@@restorider for the time being yes it is only a territorial ban. EU is about to change that so soon it will be a ban in the entire EU! Same goes for points. Good luck getting your bike back to the UK... Most of the time they won't take your license right away, instead you are given a window of 3-6 months when you will have to hand in your license. They can take it right away if they feel like it though and in France they do! I've seen it happen many times. Go 51 over the speed limit and your vehicle stays where they stopped you.

The thing is, the cars in traffic jams in Germany don't make room for bikes for lane splitting. This is a method of making access to the emergencies that may have caused the traffic jam easier. "Rettungsgasse" is the legal term, you may translate it as "Emergency alley", and unauthorised usage, in other words NOT in an emergency vehicle with flashing blue lights, costs a fine of 230 quid here. Lane splitting is a bad no-can-do in merry old Krautland.

Well, they allow filtering in the Netherlands, but they are not required to move out of the way, it's just when there's space there's space. Also, a copper told me I should move back in line above 30 km/h, but that's bollocks as that's the speed most traffic jams seem to move around...constant high-frequency moving in and out of the lane with your bike increases the risk of colliding with bikes already moving between traffic, I'd rather stay between lanes a bit longer until traffic really starts moving again.
