Ex '98 750 SRAD owner here, owned while it was young enough to still have a warranty. The only word you could not use to describe it was standard. Rear ride height adjuster, LED light tail tidy, 4x 4 inch flush fit indicators, Harris adjustable rear sets with polished custom GSXR heel guards, end can and the Dynojet ECU with a rolling road custom map and an 11% shift in the final drive gearing for more acceleration punch on track days. Do not let anybody tell you it should remain standard, us original owners did nothing of the type, just get her running and back on the edge of her tyres

@@pauln6803 please tell me what they did wrong with the sv1000? I know the tl1000R is a quite wild ride. 135 hp right? Did they tame down the engine a lot or? I have never riden a tl1000r. Heard they shake their head quite a bit? But thats not the engines fault. I had a 134 hp 1998 750 srad for 6 years. Have a zx10r 2005 streetfighter now. But would like to know what they fucked up, if they fucked something up with the engine in the sv1000 :-)
@pauln68032 жыл бұрын
@@sund5 First off the TL S and R are supposedly very different bikes; the original S being a hooligan that was inclined to shake it's head, whereas the R was stable but had a weight problem. Actually, they both have a weight problem, it's just that Suzuki lied even more about the R being fond of pies and cakes! The R motor had different cams, a more refined injection system and the frame was a massive beam job with a braced swing arm. The S and the SV had a sort of semi aluminium trellis and unbraced swing arms. The original TLS had a V twin bottom end drive with a two stroke top end rush, whereas the R is supposedly smoother in it's power delivery but ends up making a couple more bhp than the S. Later TL-S models had less aggressive throttle response and supposedly didn't make as much power as the original '97. As per usual, neither made what Suzuki claimed at the rear wheel. 118hp for the S and 122hp for an R would be more realistic but I read about an S with a full Akra system and mapped Power Commander making over 130bhp at the rear wheel. The early S also had a lot of electrical and chassis problems, such as poor grounding, low speed stalling, leaking fuel tanks, leaking clutch covers, oil level window in the wrong position and cracked frames due to the rear damper mounting being over torqued at the factory. In comparison the SV motor is flat and totally unthreatening. I believe there were changes to the timing and ports, along with injection to smooth out the power. Unfortunately, they cut it's balls off to make it behave better instead of developing a truly competent chassis. The SV had budget parts bin forks and a conventional rear shock. I owned a '97 S and I can honestly say it was hilarious to ride when not dumping my (admittedly inexperienced) hide in the road. Unpredictable is a good word to describe the TLS's handling. A mate still owns an R, modded with a WP shock and fork internals. I've never ridden it so can't say how different the two TL models are. Both had the infamous rotary damper system and both could suffer "rubber frame" moments on roundabouts, where the bike feels exactly like it has a flexible frame - not a tank slapper, just an occasional mid corner weave that's cured by a quality conventional shock. I had an SV on loan for a couple of months while white van man's - who knocked me off my first (of 4) Aprilia RSV - insurance company was messing about. Nobody truly got to the bottom of why the S had a tendency to shake it's head. I once would have argued that it wasn't unstable, until one day on the way to work I took a roundabout in committed fashion and as soon as I rolled off the throttle as I was joining the traffic ahead it went into a full on lock to lock tank slapper. A lot of people blame the rotary damper that works off a rocker instead of a conventional piston rod but I'd already replaced that with a Nitron race shock. I finally got sick of the problems and crashing, bought an '03 Mille and found out what good handling and brakes were. I stopped crashing too(!) The Italian bike was actually more reliable and the Aprilia/Rotax 60° V twin is known to be a solid lump that will happily clock up high mileage. As to the direct comparison between the TL1000S and the SV1000S, I'd sum it up as follows... The TL is always trying to put the front wheel in the air, it runs wide in corners unless you replace the rear shock and has the Suzuki standard of shit brakes. It's not exactly forgiving and tends to dump you before it warns you. The motor has bags of character that just urges you to roll on the throttle, feeling that big V twin chug change into a snarling rush, accompanied by a glorious induction roar and the front wheel lifting beautifully. The SV is essentially a decent commuter come short distance tourer that pretends to be a bit sporty. The handling is lighter and much easier to ride than the TL, but the motor has zero aggression or soul. It's all a bit nice... It's smoother than the TL, but feels less grunty and obviously doesn't have the top end rush and has to be provoked to wheelie. The air intakes on the front fairing are fake (nothing to channel the air into the airbox) and there's no induction roar. Brakes are still shit. The basic ride quality is fine but it didn't like being pushed like a real sports bike and is the polar opposite of the Aprilia RSV Mille, which gets better and better the more physical your input. Put it this way, once I'd found another Mille and returned the SV I was immediately struck at how stiff the chassis felt in comparison. Not stiff as in harder springing because if anything I'd say the standard (not the R with Ohlins suspension and forged OZ wheels) Aprilia RSV Mille had slightly lighter spring rate than the Suzuki SV but the frame and connection between the wheels if you get what I mean? My current RC8R has that same light, easy to get on and ride away thing of the SV but is ultra stiff, razor sharp to turn and very sensitive to input: you move, it moves. KTM's LC8 motor feels like a 1970's tractor that's been tuned to the point of exploding and had a supercharger bolted on for good measure, but it hasn't burned a drop of oil and I've never seen any swarf in the mesh strainers or paper filter in the 20,000 miles I've added since buying it. Gearbox requires local planning permission and multiple bureaucratic forms to be filled in between gear changes. If only Suzuki could bring the TL engine up to date and give it a chassis like the KTM or Aprilia...
