Aside from A Wilhelm Scream, you guys are the only REAL technical punk band - mixing progressive stuff with HC punk speed and melodies. Bravo!

hmm...well, in my opinion, Forus songs are more complex and diverse Propagandhi or Such Gold, espeacially guitar parts. Also, Forus' songs are very fast, considerably faster than the bands you mentioned. To me, Propagandhi are one of those bands that seems to just try too hard to create complicated and technical songs, while with AWS or 4us it sounds way more natural (in terms of songwriting). But, as always, to each his own. :)

RandomlyDrumming IMO AWS aren't really that complex. sure, the guitars and bass are crazy, but it's usually 1 riff repeated four times then another riff repeated 4 times. forus is all 4/4 aswell. not really innovative, just metal influenced skatepunk in perfection. have you heard the new such gold album? some of the wackiest time signatures ever in punk, lots of unexpected changes, licks, fills everywhere. i challenge you to cover "no cab fare", "food court blues" or "the new sidewalk" on drums ;)

Franz Roth Yeah, I agree with you that in terms of song arrangement it's not that complex. But on the other hand, odd time signatures are really not that hard. It's far easier for you to come up with a crazy time signature and drum beat than for someone else to copy it/emulate your style. Thing is, you can play really simple stuff in odd times and make it SEEM complex, but there's really nothing to it. On the other hand, from my perspective, it's definitely harder when you actually have to have speed and apply really good technique in order to play something (you can't just count it, like when you have odd times, you have to spend considerable more time practicing and improving your playing). Bands like Dream Theater or Dave Weckl band are the examples of how you combine all these elements to create long and complex "epic" songs. But I digress... :) Anyway, these are the reasons why I, personally, find AWS more complex and technical (at least on guitars and bass) than Such Gold (who, on the other hand, have better drummer, in my opinion). I guess it all comes down to personal preference.

RandomlyDrumming just because AWS play more technical stuff does not mean that they're better musicians. see bands like Lagwagon, who mostly play simple chords and riffs and straightforward stuff, but they have some mad soloing on the album blaze that puts any a wilhelm scream guitar lead to shame (for the record, i love AWS, lagwagon and such gold equally). but you're right, it mostly comes down to personal preference and also where you are talented. the bass player in my band can play super technical shit but struggles sometimes even with 4/4 time signatures. you should still cover a such gold song, i love your covers :)
