I’ve been backtesting and forward testing for 7-8 months(on demo account). Sometimes I want to quit even before I start,but the next day, there I go again. VP you’re absolutely right when you say that sometimes we need to start all over again and thanks for letting us know that it is absolutely normal. I want to build a system that I can be at least 60% sure that I can trust or else I won’t even start. It’s time consuming and boring but it worth it. And also, since i started to practice I do it as my “real” money. I don’t know if someday I’ll get there but in the meanwhile I’ll keep trying and testing. Thank you very much VP for your excellent content.

Iam not at the forwardtesting phase yet. I thought I could start today because I got nice backtest results on the eur/usd so I was excited. Well I tested the system on multiple pairs en that results where a bit disappointed. So for this week I take a step back tweak it or try to find better indicators:). Im going to GET IT.

I had to stop forward testing. I started just this April and have 7.7 percent return on 5000 papertrade acct. Once I saw that I just closed all the trades to lock in the money. I had set a goal of trying to get over 12 percent for the month. I was in AUDNZD since April 2nd but had no way to let it run anyway because I dont know what to do with trailing stop anyway Haha so I kept moving stop just under swing low on the four hour chart because I didn't know what else to do! I shut all my trades and that one two days ago. It really showed me I have successful indicators tho but do I know how to manage trade yet? nope. Will wait and learn more but dang when I saw that money piling up it was exciting but I need my system to be perfect no emotion and no goals in forward testing. Thanks VP

I am frustrated! had some demo accounts for 3 months now. and i started forward testing on them as i started putting my system. so far back testing indicators with great results. but forward almost every trade is a loss. most indicators gives you the signal after the trend is almost over. even though i have a second & third confirmation indicators.. i know its mostly because the markets are flat now. but so far i think risk managment is the best gift you gave away..

If your system is really that bad, maybe you could try to go short when you get a long signal and viceversa.

I found personally i dont put enough owness into a demo account.. i found a very small account and percentage trading keeps me under wraps and wary enough not to make silly discisions. Because when you get the confirmation and you can rely on what you have built from ground up.. you know.. i am curious though vp.. you mention choppy markets and them not being to great.. what if your system works really well in a choppy market due to early indicatiom and risk management.. sure you dont take 3:1.. but 1:1 - 1:1.6 is still fairly achievable.. and good money management in my opinion.

1.5x ATR for SL and 1x ATR for TP... And after TP you need a continuation order with Half of the Volume you are trading on the first order

Back test for the last 3 years then forward test for 6 months, make all the mistakes here. Remember to do the journal and compare your data, that will put you a far way when your ready to trade with actual money,

Forward demo account testing is not necessary for more than a couple of days, just to make sure things work in a "live" enviroment. You optimize on 2016-2018, you forwardtest on 2019. Forwardtesting on a demoa account for 6months is just a waste of time.

So wrong. Real time trading is night and day compared to demo. Plus, you have to deal with the emotions of trading real time, and learn to get over them. 6 months may not be long enough.
