Nice content as usual. Tnx for reminding people of the dangers of Martingale family! In hedge fund industry there is a similar yet deeper topic which is concerned with improving Sharpe by undertaking unmanaged/hidden tail risk. Finally, split Martingale has no significant merit either. I have coded various risk/money management strategies for various systems and just wanted to assure everyone Labouchere doesn’t improve your expected return while maintaining the desirable risk profile. Cheers.

At 20 I heard about Martingale, used it online on a roulette table. Worked out 16 Red's/Blacks in a row and $1 would have become something like $330k. Tweaked it to my own system using 1/3rds, did really well, turned $150 into $6000 over the course of 5 days, until the online betting company realized what I was doing, brought down my bet limit from $300 to $50 and then watched me give all $6k back. Morale of the story, don't chase your losses. Also if your system is effected by outside forces, sit back for awhile and tweak it so it works again EDIT: Reading the podcast I see that VP also liked testing out theories for strategies on free casino trials.

I'm watching this on April 1st 2020!! What's the chances? Well...my youtube entry indicator got me in, albeit a little late (past 12:00, where April fool's allegedly ends), but the confirmation indicator is good, and I'm going to increase the volume before exiting onto the next money management video :D. It really isn't a game of chance, it's technicality. Jokes aside, I love your work VP. Very entertaining and a very consistent approach, which is what I like. I've not started trading at all yet. I listened to all your podcasts back to back whilst commuting to and from work for a few weeks, having never seen a chart. I have then completed babypips, every lesson making notes. Now working through each of the video playlists again, taking notes. It's a lot of work before I even venture out on my own. No doubt I will need to go through a LOT of content again before I even get onto a demo. Absolute newbie who is still resisting the urges of those instagrammers who all look like they and their followers get amazing results!!! :O

Hey VP. I think you have very valid points. Especially for beginners in this realm. I have been building my own algorithms for 2 years now. I think the value you are providing people is tremendous. 1. I've really been spending a lot of time on those renko charts after seeing that video. Especially on fractional pip bricks it's soooo clean and straight forward its like OCD Therapy. It really threw me for a loop on indicators though but I've found a couple decent ones also the ATR is a mess but the ATR based bricks make for choppy charts and kind of kills the point of why I like renko charts I would love to see your take on line break charts. I've tried looking online to see if you've covered this if I can't find it I may have to reach out to you in the blog I'd love a name drop in the podcast. 2. Thank you for not charging for all of this. Hopefully one day in the next couple years I'll see you at a maverick conference. Beers are on me.

DCA is provably a great bet, most people don't know the mathematics and the method behind it. With DCA You don't just do "if price goew below, invest N times more". In DCA, you periodically invest a constant amount in a long term growth portfolio to average up and down moves. You end up investing both when market is down and market is up so you end up with the average up slope. OTOH Martingale doesn't really make sense as a long term large capital investment. It is just insane risk for a relatively small gain. Does it have its use? I really don't know. Simulations say it performs better when entry points are selected at random. Oscillator/indicator based strategies perform much better when stops are in place and perform terribly with martingales. I guess there is a way to use them but I don't know.

@NoNonsenseForex5 жыл бұрын
I just forgot to mention it. Metals trading is still spot metals in the end, which means you can get wiped out in a hurry, even if you're right in the long-term. If you're investing in these things through holding actual metals or ETFs, you could average down if you wanted to IMO.

Hey VP. The blog post intrigued me. I've been testing it exactly the way you described it. I have a question though. If you bet on the banker the house usually has a 5% commission. So even with 2 consecutive wins and you clearing the sheet you don't get exactly the full amount (20 per sheet). That changes things in the long run / losing streaks. What's the way around it? Thanks!

You can predict how many losses you will get in a row and how frequently they will occur given the win percentage. Something like 50/50 would give you 4 losses in a row every 16 trades. I don't actually remember the answer.

Agree that DCA is better suited to a longterm stock portfolio (e.g 401K) and not Forex trading. However dollar cost averaging is actually buying equal units at equal intervals regardless of if the price is going up or down in order ease your way in and get an average entry price. As opposed to averaging down which is just trying to buy the dips every time price goes against you. On the other hand. Martingale sure is a recipe for disaster lol.

With all respect Patrick your definition of dollar cost averaging is incorrect here. You are describing something called "averaging down" which is a little bit different to dollar cost averaging. Dollar cost averaging means to regularly buy stocks over the years, putting usually the same amount of money in each time period, knowing that over the years the average cost will be smoothed. So if stocks are expensive in 2022 you just keep buying because in 2025 they are cheap- so the cost is averaged. Not the same as averaging down, which is what you described.
