Cop in this case: "you watched him die and did nothing?!" I'm confused about the cops and their obsession with the mom not calling 911? She took him to the hospital. Where I live just driving to the hospital is faster than waiting for an ambulance to come.

Yea that was a little strange. They were acting as if she hadn’t done anything. Do they think her calling 911, waiting for them to get there and then taking him to the hospital anyway would’ve saved him? Like in my opinion she took more action than some would’ve by just taking him herself.

That is so true!! But people like to judge without knowing how someone will react to a anxiety attack. When my dad was dying from cancer, I was grabbing his hand and as soon as he passed I burst laughing so hard that some of the family looked at my as if I was crazy AND I do loved my dad so much, we had a very strong and special relationship, weird one, like we will fight all the time but at the same time we could almost knew what the other was thinking, I know he would die for me and I for him anytime. Since I can remember I have had the same reaction to pain or grief.

True... I get uncomfortable in a lot of situations. I either go into shock, or freeze up. I get fidgety, I sometimes laugh when there is clearly nothing to laugh about. I also either don't cry at all, or I cry too much and I hate crying in front of other's. If I was ever interviewed with millions of people watching it; they'd probably think I'm guilty just because I'd be so awkward!

I took a first aid course and the instructor was very clear that laughing was a stress response. It's only officially been recognized in the last few years. She was in hospital for a leg fracture and because she was laughing from shock the doctors though she was making light of her injury. Because of that they didn't treat her properly until months later and now she has a limp for life because of the delayed treatment.

Poor little guy :( This is so sad, my husband was starved as a child, before foster care and remembers eating gum off the sidewalk :/ As someone who has also taken in family members children, via the state, and had 2 very challenging Grandchildren with behavioral problems; they really should've put him in a situation where he had more one-on-one care. It is not the child's decision, or fault, that he is damaged! Why abuse him more, after all he has been through? Garden hose bathing, wooden bed sleeping, and feeding him obviously not normal amounts of food, even if he has an obvious eating disorder??? What about counseling? Why not tell the state you're in over your head, and need a specialized home counselor, or need him to go to a more specialized situation?? NO sympathy here - It is up the adults, to know when it has become too much!! We had 5 kids total at one point, with our 3 children, and the 2 Grandkids who's parents lost their rights - and had some tough choices to make at one point. There is an element of shame, in realizing that you're in over your head, and they obviously were. Sorry, not sorry. The foster parents were in the wrong!!! Worried about what their "church family", and friends would think. So so so sad!!! They clearly committed child abuse, in MANY ways. I'm appalled :(

Yea, that is actually pretty common. One time my older brother tickled my little brother and my little brother pooped all over himself. I remember my mom took my little brother out back and hosed him and his underwear and pants out. I mean it's not like you are using a fire-hose that has really high pressure and hurts. It is a basic, average water hose. It is easier to spray the poop off outside than to get a bunch of shit in your shower and/or washer. She wasn't hosing him off out there as punishment but more so to make the least mess as possible. He didn't care at all. lol

My parents were great parents, but for some reason my kid brain decided to wake up every night and go and sneak sips of their leftover Dr Pepper from the trash can…which led to minor health issues, confusion on my diagnosis and finally my confession which is how we found out I’m allergic to caramel food coloring. 🤷🏻‍♀️ kids are weird. My parents probably looked like liars to the doctors though, “she *never* drinks soda”. Me riffling through the trash like a raccoon in the night to steal sips of flat soda: 👀 Point is, sometimes parents look guilty but it’s just an accident or the kid. I think that’s this case. @@SaudiLiving1 this is an EXTREMELY GOOD point! I can deff see usingthe grill after thinking about it. 6 children around and replacing the grill is something you can do but you cannot take back a child getting into an open fire. The dad was frustrated and trying to get rid of the sheets permanently so the kid would stop trying to get them again and again. He threw them in the grill, easy to contain the fire cuz you can close the lid and walk away which makes since as to why they weren't completely burned up too. He prob threw it in there and got back to cleaning everything up and was not about to go back to that until he could just take it to the dump and get a knew one. It does make since in that light.

Laying on a "hard bed frame" sounds harsh but he still had blankets and pillows, it's no different than camping. 4. Now this ropes back into point #1; I don't think they knew he was dying! The cop is acting like they knew he was dying. They DID take him to the ER, some people live closer to the hospital than to an ambulance station (where I live, it would be faster for me to drive to the ER than to wait for an ambulance.) 5. BAM! The hospital staff were continuing to administer sodium through an IV for an hour and a half before realizing he had hypernatremia.

@@polardirt4835 exactly that's the thing. You can be as knowledgeable as possible about medicine and medical conditions and sicknesses. but a lot of sicknesses have the same symptoms. Like food poisoning being mistaken for a stomach bug, or a virus being mistaking as the flu. You can't blame her for thinking originally that he had made himself sick from his tantrum or that he had come down with a stomach flu as those would have been explainable symptoms and the last thing you think of being wrong is some type of poisoning. An average doctor would have confused his salt poisoning for the same thing. Just like how lead poisoning is often mistook as some other issue before tests are done. All the officers involve or the jury can't just go off on her and accuse her for something she didn't catch fast enough/realize and for an honest mistake. It wasn't her fault. And it's not her fault for not looking at what she was taking away from him when he had got into the cabinet as she was likely too busy scolding him. And for the police officers to use that as an excuse for "she killed him"? that's just poor work and premade assumptions and accusations on their side. In the clips you can see how they're pressuring her into saying she did it, how accusing they are. That's an officer whos decided she. A still in shock mother who couldn't even think right was guilty before getting the full story or caring to. the jury did the same thing and arrested her due to their accusations without looking at the bigger picture and had allowed the poor boys death to cloud their minds without even trying to look at it from her side. This whole case was handled poorly, and if I were her I would have sued them for the years they took and for the false accusations they threw (sorry for writing so much oof)

The hosing depends. What was the temp outside? HOW did they hose him off? As they were into unorthodox punishment for their special needs child, It's hard to believe this wasn't done in an abusive manor. Remember he was forced to go sleep on a box with no bed clothes after he was hosed down. Then was not given NEW bedclothes..... They were abusing this child and he died. His death at a minimum was abusive negligence.

Here's my genuine opinion. I had pica when I was younger. I was constantly hungry and I LOVED salt. I also had ADHD so my parents struggled to keep my calm with my food addiction. My mom would legit give me hot water with bulletin cubes mixed with it just to keep my under control. My dad would give me yogurts. Why? Because thats all they could think of because doctors don't know everything. That's exactly what this mother did. The fact that people are making it seem strange that she showered him down with a hose and burned the bed sheets is kinda crazy to me. Did you expect her to wash his shit filled ass in the bathroom where the other kids bathe in? Did you expect her to keep the shit stained sheets? That's the fastest way to get e-coli. She did what she thought was necessary and she at least tried unlike most people in her situation. Edit: OK so a lot of you have been giving me criticism about the bedsheets. I just want to make something clear. I don't think burning the sheets was the most logical solution. If my child shat all over my bed, burning the sheets won't be my first solution. But that's just me. Y'all gotta remember that people don't think the same way as you. People make irrational decisions.

The only real flags for me are burning the sheets on the grill, and having him sleep on his bed frame. Possible they had no other way to contain the fire. The seasoning in the sippy cup seems like a somewhat smart way to try and convince Andrew he was intaking something flavorful like a soup or a broth without the calories and without feeding him four bowls. A drive to the hospital is faster than an ambulance here, and using a normal backyard hose to rinse a poopy toddler is very common. I’m sure they got frustrated and were overwhelmed with his behaviors, but I don’t think some questionable choices = life in prison for murder. Andrew looked like such a sweet boy, I’m happy he found a family and hope his last few months were spent so very feeling loved.

I think its very possible, knowing his severe eating habits, that he ate salt out of the container in the cabinet while mom was asleep. It was foolish for her to not find out what exactly he ate, but it sounds like he got into every little thing constantly and it would be hard to keep up, who knows if he would even tell the truth. I honestly don't think she poisoned him. Her smiling & laughting seemed like an hysterical reaction, which, is something some people do under extreme duress. - I have been known to do so myself at the absolute most inappropriate times & have been horribly embarrassed over it! I believe she & her husband were confused & frustrated with what was occurring, but that neither would have hurt him intentionally. Perhaps, if the child really did sleep on the wooden bed frame then it was probably a dramatic tactic to try get him to realize why he had no mattress to sleep on until it dried. Burning the sheets may have been an act of frustration &/or another attempt of getting him to understand the soiling was ruining his possessions. Cleaning &/or buying Mattresses & sheets can become quite costly if extremely soiled & stained. The water hose incident was probably best if he was out of control. Putting him in a tub where he could crack his skull would have been a bad idea. Besides it may have been cold, but doesn't about to abuse. Leaving him unclean would've been far worse. Patience can be difficult , but I think they were trying very hard to do right overall. Not knowing what he had wrong with him (possibly Prader-Willi Syndrome) they were desperate to help him & reacted badly, but to their credit they seemed to try to reach out to the adoption agent for help which showed they cared & were at a loss as to what to do. They received no real answers sadly as no one had any to offer. Also, the seasoned water would have perhaps been an attempt to keep him from overeating, throwing up, eating then throwing up yet again. It had to be a horrific & vicious cycle! I firmly believe she fell asleep that day & he got into the pantry on his own. At 3 yrs old I remember waiting until my mother fell asleep to get into things. Luckily, what I did was comical & ended up not being deadly, but my antic's could have easily turned tragic as well... That woman never deserved prison time when there was no real evidence proving 'beyond a reasonable doubt' that she had hurt her child. The other foster other who had kept him at a younger age claimed he never had issues when he was with her, yet that was likely because the eating disorder had not been as bad at that time, only presenting gradually. Besides older people always had different idea's back then & retained the attitude that a hungry boy is a healthy boy, so she likely never thought he was ill just 'a growing boy' who simply needed more than usual. The whole situation is very sad. None of them are to blame; It's just an incredible tragedy. I hurt for them all so much & mourn for that precious lil man who never had a chance to grow up simply because he was undiagnosed. I'm happy the mother has been freed & that she & her husband are now able to raise their remaining children together, plus have been blessed with another child to love. I'm sure they will always hold their foster/adopted son close in their memories & hearts. May he rest in peace!

I also use to get a lot of bruises and a lot of them were from falling over during a tantrum or hitting my arm against a door as I slammed it. Also imagine the trauma that she endured after watching her child die and then being told that it was her fault not to mention the kids were told that their mum killed their brother! I'm glad she's free and her family was able to greave together for the first time in 7 years.
