Thank you! I've seen "creating springs" videos for other stuff and they tend to use the word Music Wire as well. Not sure that's the exact same thing but yeah, the one in this video 100% works.

I replaced the belt last year and it works great again. Unfortunately I never replaced the screws to secure the cover. Do you have a copy of the service manual or post the size of the 10 screws? Thanx Vin

I have one of these and the unit turns on but it wont play, rewind or fast forward. However when tou turn it on and press rewind or fast forward as its lighting up it will rewind or fast forward. Once you press stop it goes dead again and wont play. It doesn't engage up with the cassette. Any advice as to what it could be?

Hey man, excellent video. Where did you find the service manual online? I seem to be able to find the owner's manual everywhere but the service manual with the exploded view and parts list is nowhere to be seen. Thanks.

I actually contacted Fostex in Japan (www.fostex.jp/) about it and they sent it to me. Before I contacted Japan I was in contact with a local actor related to Fostex in my local market and their policy was to not give out those things.

Great and helpful! I have a 380S that has been forgotten in the basement for twenty years for lack of a belt. Have you replaced yours, and can you tell the measurement? I was amazed to see that you have the service manual! Is there a link to it? Thanks!

Hi Mark, no I haven't replaced the belt yet as it works fine still but I bought a spare in case it snaps one day. I don't have the exact messurements and I'm not sure I would do a very good myself as it is a flexible loop. But, this is what I bought: www.ebay.de/itm/133942389820. I'm not from Germany myself but it worked with some Google Translate and bravery to get it delivered :). Regarding the service manual, see a previous comment on this video. There are also very helpful members in the Facebook group called "Portastudio and other 4-Track Cassette Recorders".

@@notlars Thanks. Incredibly, Fostex provided the service manual! The machine is from 1993! I replaced the belt okay, but after reassembling and powering on, the transport is doing an up-down action nine times and stopping in the 'up' position with all lights lit. Third Island said to check the "functions gear lock," but beyond this he is silent. I can find no mention of this anywhere. Have you any idea? By the way, the drive pulley is 1 cm in diameter, the capstan flywheel 5cm and the distance between axles is 5cm. The belt is flat and 4mm in width. Sellers want between $15 and $20 for it!
