I like that you are not disappointed by the clear blue sky and do the astrophotos in the night. I don't know what are the other photographers bragging about. Stars and nebulae in the photograph look much better than clouds. And I also agree with you about the camera settings being so stupidly limited. Eg, no HDR Timelapse, no Long exposure timelapse, I mean 3-5min exposures, no 15fps or 10fps video mode for dark night video with 1/15 or 1/10 shutter speeds. Those are just few that I am missing. Or cropped mode 1080p video mode for zoomed 1x1pixel ratio video. By the way, astrophotography rated cameras like Nikon D810a or Canon Ra have long exposure modes built in the system. Also have you tried astro modify some of your older cameras for Hydrogen Alpha pass? It can do magic with astrophotography. Also the software called Sequator can stack star images and foreground images separately for better noiseless star images. And as usual, excellent video.👍👍👍

Completely agree regarding the 30 sec limit. Before switching to Sony I used to shoot with the Pentax K-1, in which you can set the shutter speed to whatever you like without a cable release. It also has the "Astrotracer" function allowing the sensor to track the motion of the stars giving trail-less stars and much less high ISO noise for up to five minutes! This is about the only thing I miss about the move to Sony. Of course, Astrotracer blurs the rest of the scene, so you need to blend this with a shot without the Astrotracer.
@P.W.R.2 жыл бұрын
How does that Astrotracer work on the K-1? Does the sensor itself move or does it shift pixels to counteract the rotation? Do you still need to align with polaris for it to work? How long can you expose for with that enabled? More cameras need this! No need to lug around a star tracker with a feature like that. Unless you want really long exposures then a star tracker is needed, but you can get away with vivid starry skies with 30 sec exposures no problem if you combined this feature with fast lenses. Canon and Nikon should do something like this.
@AmorLucisPhotography2 жыл бұрын
@@P.W.R. It moves the sensor. Basically, it uses the on-board GPS to locate you on the earth's surface together with an internal compass/gyroscope to determine orientation, and the system that normally controls in-body stabilization slowly moves the sensor to compensate for the rotation of the earth. You don't need to align it with Polaris or anything, although its a good idea to calibrate the compass before each session (a simple matter of rotating the body in three axes). You have up to five minutes before you reach the limit of the movement available in the sensor. That's 3 to 5 stops of high-ISO noise improvement, depending on speed of lens and conditions! It's a really neat idea, but I wonder whether it might be patented.

I generally shoot between 3800 and 4400 Kelvin on my white balance. I could be wrong but I think every camera is close to the same when using Kelvin. I think the difference is in the other white balance settings. Day time on the GFX might be at a different Kelvin than it is on a Sony, Canon or Nikon and the same for the others. As stated by others, the z6 II (what I use) can go up to 15 min on the long exposure. I've used it for 4 min several times. If you don't have long exposure noise correction on you'll have to remove the hot pixels in post. There's an easy way to do that in Photoshop. I've also had times when my composition didn't work out when I was there shooting and had to make a last minute change. It can get frustrating. And the more complex the shot is the more things that can go wrong.

Great shots, one thing to note is the Canon R5 does not need a remote to do longer than 30 seconds either. Simply go to Bulb Mode and use the lcd screen to take the shot. Obviously touching the LCD could potentially introduce camera shake but if you are careful with it you wont.
@tamasnemeth21612 жыл бұрын
To be honest, Canon has the Bulb mode with Bulb timer option (where you can set any time in seconds resolution) up to a decent length. For whatever reason not on the 1D line though... And Fuji was still focusing on films when Phase One had CCD backs with 1h maximum exposure time...
