I have used MANY cameras over the years (I had a camera store and studio for nearly 30 years), I switched all my full frame gear for the Olympus E-M1x when it was released and wouldn't swap it for the world. I don't specialise in any genre of photography but like to dabble in everything from bird photography, landscapes, macro and astro and this system shines in all areas. Thanks for your videos Chris. I was born and raised in Hull and have lived iin Australia for the last 55 years so I love your Humber and Spurn Point videos.

I just got one a few weeks ago, together with the amazing 45mm f1.8. I like the ergonomics, the AF speed, the IBIS, the smaller size of the MFT lenses, the speed of the interface, customizability (buttons and interface), the mechanical shutter sound, Pro Capture mode and other stuff I'm forgetting. I want to keep the system as small and light as possible, so I'll probably get a few extra f1.8 primes (probably the 17mm and the 25mm) and call it a day.

I have an Oly E-M1 mk1 12-40mm, 40-150mm f2.8, tripod, shutter release, glass filters, print to Flickr. I have a 25mm f1.4mm for 45mm f1.8 for minimalist photography. Couldn't be happier. I'll probably buy the Lumix Leica 8-18mm f2.8. I have an E-M10 + grip + Leica15mm f1.7 prime along with a spare battery which I stuff in jacket pocket and just do some woodland photography. 16MP going into 4K gives loads of cropping room with a bit zooming with feet thrown in pretty much never fails. The prime stopped down to F8 with the IBIS is tack sharp and the colour rendition is amazing. Liberating just grabbing camera, jump in the car, drive 20 minutes to the woods for a spot of photography around golden hour on Sunday...

Great video - thanks! I have 2 OM1 MkII cameras which I have used professionally for weddings for nearly 8 years now. I do keep an eye out for upgrades but I learned years ago that, if your gear does what you need it to do, don’t fall into to marketing GAS trap and blow money on upgrades. The two lenses I use for weddings and events are the Oly 12-40 f2.8 and 40-150 f2.8 - one on each camera body. These are both fantastic lenses and I only occasionally augment these with primes for low light stuff. My reason for using this kit is primarily for size, weight and the fantastic glass that the m4/3 system affords - being unobtrusive in a wedding leads to the best candids in a 10-12 hour shoot. My hobby is wildlife photography and, like you, I use the custom settings for things like Pro-capture (perching birds/take-off shots) and BIF. It’s amazing that you can get an 800mm equivalent reach with the Oly and Pana 100-400mm zoom or unparalleled 600mm equivalent f4 prime in the Oly 300mm lens in such a small size. On top of that, combined IBIS and lens stability, this reach can be used effectively hand-held without mashing your back! I’m sure an OM1 variant will be mine one day but, while the images and my current cameras are working out, I’ll not be spending money on an upgrade just yet. One final point - I still use my EM5 mkII as a general walk-about/street shooter. This paired with the Oly 17mm prime or Pana 12-60mm is a terrific discrete walk-about combo which I won’t be upgrading from any time soon. Cheers!

This body was my second choice behind the E-M1X I ultimately chose and have sworn by since. I simply like the dual-orientation features, grip and batteries on mine, though many of the internal features are similar. Coupled with the Pro glass, it was a huge step up from my old 4/3 E-510, even though it was an excellent performer for its time. I love the electronic nd filters, hi-res mode, focus points/tracking and focus-stacking... The list goes on, of course, but the features in this system are truly remarkable and it's still sufficiently light that I can access some rather remote locations without feeling like I've packed an old 4x5.

I have a MkII - my first MFT camera and also a MkIII and OM-1. I have had the MkII since 2017 when I switched over from Nikon. Even after all this time, I still find the camera a problem free joy to use which produces exceptional results. I have used it for all sorts of photography with no problems. This year, since I had both of the two newer versions, I had it converted to IR and it is doing an amazing job at that too. Thanks, Chris, for all of your videos showing just how great MFT is.

I do not have the E-M1 MKII, but I have several Olympus/OM System cameras and they all have these nice features. Quite often I have to "defend" my choice for Micro FourThirds and get the standard remarks about noise and high price. I call my Olympus cameras enablers though, because with their small weight and size they enable me to take them anywhere. The build quality, weather sealing and features have proven themselves priceless over time.

4:15 “never failed to let me down” ? But I thought you liked it! LoL. I know what you meant. I love my E-M1 II. I find myself grabbing my M-10 II almost as much though. My EM-1 II does everything I need it to do. The only thing lacking for me is high-speed video. But I am not really into video much at this point so I will not upgrade until it makes sense. Bird tracking is tricky but it does well. Distracting backgrounds throw CAF off sometimes and it is hard to get it back in the same burst.
@lensman57624 ай бұрын
You put your finger on it for landscape or street photography the MFT allows you to shoot near wide open with great depth of field. Thebonus is that due to the physics of optics the MFT lenses are usually at their best only a stop or so from wide open, which means you don't ha e to wack the iso too high up.

Recently picked up a “broken” EM1m2 with 2 batteries and a charger for under $50 The only thing wrong with it was the rear lcd wasn’t working. The EVF is fine as well as the hdmi port for using it with an external monitor. I also have the OM1 and it is the better of the two but I must say that I like the ergonomics of the EM1m2 more than the OM1. The button layout and dials are just better laid out on the EM1. I will be using it mostly for night work. Also have a full spectrum converted EM5m2. As well as the lumix G9m2. I have gone all in with micro 4/3 and I can’t say how much I have enjoyed the switch from the larger heavier FF stuff. It’s actually enjoyable to go out now with 1/3 the weight and size of stuff I used to take. And I’m getting the same images if not more than I was with my Sony FF stuff. I can say from my experience I come home with more birds in flight keeps with my pany and oly gear and 200 and 300 primes than I ever brought home with my Sony a9 and 200-600. It’s just so much more maneuverable than those monster FF super zooms. I still have my Sony FF with a few fast prime portrait lenses where I do want that shallower DOF. But for everything else I’m using my m4/3 gear. Best move I have made in 40 years of hobbyist shooting.

Then record button I have mapped for manual focus .. one use is for back button focus, basically. Tried back button, never got on with it. And I just got the tiny Panasonic 35-100. It’s the size of a 1.8 prime. I love zoom focal lengths, and it’s making all my other lenses really jealous because they don’t get onto the camera any more.

After I bought a Canon R6, I thought about getting rid of my EM-1 Mark II and various lenses. I sold the expensive Pro lenses but realized the body wasn't worth much on the used market so I kept it. The Canon is a better camera overall, but recently I've been using the Oly and a reacquired 12-100 Pro f4 for walk-around shooting. Canon doesn't offer a comparable zoom lens that's waterproof. For night photos and settings when I'll want higher image quality or narrower depth of field, I use the Canon and its heavier lenses.

If you need high resolution in High Res Mode: Stick around f5.6 with a sharp lens. F10 will give quite a lot softness from diffraction. It's totally normal that this implies no huge depth of field. Thats just physics. Whether you use 4/3s or PhaseOne medium format. It's the same.

I don't have this camera but my mf3 adventure is with my Lumix g9 This gives superbe results for what I do. The EM1 II is a great camera and I honestly believe the later flagship releases on MFT don't significantly improve on it for photography. I plumbed for the Lumix G9 based on the lenses that suited my photography mainly the PanaLeica 12-60, but the EM1 II and the G9 are neck and neck in my opinion. Also those bigger channel reviewers who a few years ago were shaming MFT users on DR now say DR doesn't matter after recent releases from Nikon and Sony had worse DR at low ISOs than both EM1 II and G9 😂. By the way I thought the hi res pic under the bridge turned out great.

My next upgrade will be to either the Mark iii or the OM-1 for the star autofocus as I want to dabble with astrophotography later in the year. I have the Mk3 and the trio of f2.8 pro Oly lenses... giving me 7 to 150... or 14 to 300... add in the tele and your over 400... whats not to like... there is no other system that gives you so much for such little money... its so versatile... eventually folk who like me have been and tried apsc and ff after we have been constantly told that M4/3 isn't any good...... will finally get the point... M4/3 is here to stay... and sensor size is a moot point when it comes to the "overall" performance of any camera system...Am I so glad I didn't sell it all... me personally I have had Olympus cameras for over...50 yrs and just love them... no one makes a class, quality, innovative camera like Olympus(omsys now)... ask David Bailey... and "everyone" has heard of him...even Gen Z....lol... Keep on doing your thing Chris... love the last shot... Peace and kind regards... Yoki.. (subber and thumbs up clicker...lol..)

Thanks, I got an OMD EM10 a few years back as a prezzie, just blown away by the quality of images M4/3 delivers, I'll have to keep my eye's peeled for a used one.

The EM10 Mark ii was my first dabble with micro four thirds and kind of set the lightbulb off for me. Was a brilliant little camera.

I've had my eye on this camera for ages. How is it for video, specifically indoor cooking videos?
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto4 ай бұрын
230Mbps Cine 4K, it looks glorious for video.

@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Great, thanks Chris! Is there a cheapish lens you would recommend for close-up cooking videos?
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto4 ай бұрын
It depends how close you want to get. The 60mm macro lens from Olympus is great.

@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Ok, I'll do some more research. Love your channel and it's a big part of my decision to go for M4/3 and the E-m1 MII in particular. Not sure I can reach the level of your amazing photos though!

Great video. What lens were you using?

That was with the 12-40 f2.8 Pro lens.

If you are not a pro then the OM-5 + the Olympus 12-45mm f/4 Pro - 6.5 stops of internal stabilization.

The EM1.2 and EM1.3 are better than OMD's newest.

To be perfectly honest, whats not to like. Doesn't break the bank to buy, doesn't break your back lugging about and has all the whistles & bells you'd ever need.

Dad of 3 boys hoping for a girl next .. I have this and didn't go broke and have a much better camera than my finepix which my mom now uses

Yeah, it's pretty bad. If theres a FATACC, they will attend with all sort of kit to measure etc, but as for prevention/deterence......nope. PLUS...theres a lot of "stuff "and people moving around on and in vehicles - yeah....bad. Poor poor force.

I’m afraid I need some context there.

Observing the camera market, one can come to the conclusion that m43 is dying. What is the point of buying an m43 when you can buy a full-frame camera for the same money or even less?
