Fantastic images. Dragging the shutter is really nice in your images. Having motion adds to the emotion that you're portraying. Even the ones you didn't intend on and were wanting to freeze. They look great.

This was really fun and inspirational David. The one thing where I look for motion is with race or rally cars. The challenge to me is not blurring out the background (it is easy) but to keep movement in the wheels while the car and driver are sharp. I think the one shot you had like this in the video was pretty good!

Yeah it’s been a number of years since I did any panning shots when I was doing a lot of automotive photography at Silverstone etc. I think my main issue was the fact I preferred the long exposures so didn’t put as much effort into the panning shots. Thanks for watching, mate🖖

I know you've recently had a bit of a soirée into film photography, and one of my favourite ways to slow things down is using a pinhole camera, I'd highly recommend picking one up and giving it a go, you can get exposures from seconds to hours and have really interesting results

I actually watched a video recently on how to do a pin hole thing with a body cap. It might be something I look into at some point🖖

Nice set of shots David, I particularly like the first of the pair with the bloke at the bus stop with a bus driving past - it's got a lovely rectangular thing going on. Kind of difficult to do good freezing shots when there's nothing worth freezing on the day - I've always fancied getting some of those frozen, wide angle shots of bmx or skateboard action, but I'm nowhere near cool enough to hang around skate parks and the like!!! I used to like shooting bands and stuff with a tiny bit of movement on the faster bits of action, but not so slow that the whole thing was a blurry mess - which rather handily coincided with the sort of shutter speed I could use with the available light.

There was a time here when we had a lot of street skaters (I was one of them) but that was the 90’s and it seems way less popular now. You get the odd one or two, but the majority are just scene kids rolling around and not doing anything interesting. I enjoy the long exposures though and was happy with the bus stop guy. Have a good one, Tim🖖
@GrumpyTim Жыл бұрын
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Yep, you can do as many long exposure shots as you like, I won't get tired of them any time soon. I kind of dabbled with skateboards in their first big wave in the UK - no one seemed to do any more than attempt to stay on the board - I wasn't even very good at that. Then they seemed to disappear for a while, before popping back up, but this time people were doing amazing tricks that I could only dream of doing.

Very cool ! I have a question how you make on post this beautiful sharp effect ? Your photo are very sharp for a low shutter speed !
@DavidFlowerOfficial4 ай бұрын
There was nothing done in post to add sharpness, the Olympus ibis is just that good. I just applied a preset and tweaked the exposure. Either way the ibis in the EM1 mk ii you can easily hand hold shots up to 1 second depending on focal length🖖

Splendid shots David 👌. I'm curious as to what lens you were using throughout the vid? Lemme guess, the 12-40 pro?
@DavidFlowerOfficial Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. Actually it was the cheapest kit lens I could find when I first stepped into micro 4/3, the lumix 14-42 mega ois. The 12-40 is on my list but the one I have works great🖖
@martingreenberg870 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I just found a very inexpensive 12-40 lens. Turns out it has the same thread as the PL 12-60. Who knew? I bet this technique works with any lens you have. The critical element is having a ND filter. Obviously OIS or IBIS doesn’t help the cause when using intentional camera blur. Here is a thought. You are focusing on panning. Try finding a colorful object and move the camera. See if you like the effect. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

The panning I’ve done in the past was when I was shooting a lot of motorsports pre pandemic, but that sounds like an interesting approach for a more abstract look. I’ll give it a try 👍

Loved the man at bus stop shots... but also rather liked the ever-so-slightly maniacal 'old c**** on bicycles' shots. i've also managed to adapt to the bobbing of the footage as you stride about - i was taking sea-sickness pills for the first couple of vids i watched, but now that i've embraced the musical score and found a bit of a rhythm... i'm getting a sort of perverse pleasure from the ride. Carry On!!

would you be able to get these shots in the G10?
@DavidFlowerOfficial Жыл бұрын
The G10 has the built in nd (3stops I think) so it might be possible to get the shutter slow enough, I think you’d probably need a tripod or some other solid surface to keep it steady though. Next time I’m out with the G10 I’ll see if I can make it work 🖖
