Also, why would the Mets even offer Alonso 3/69m? He's a 1/2 win upgrade on what every projection system projects Mauricio / Baty at 3B to produce in 2025, something right around 1.5 to 2.0 fWAR. Why pay 23m a year for a half win upgrade? No one seems to grasp this: The Mets aren't signing Alonso, if they do sign him---the Mets are signing the *_UPGRADE_* Alonso represents over what the Mets will get from moving Vientos to 1B (where he rates to be more valuable than Alonso in 2025 and every year thereafter) and putting Mauricio-Baty at 3B for $2m.

There's a reason he was in the majors with that low an OPS. I'll also have you know that when you started your job players who were elite defenders but bad with the bad had starting jobs on many teams. Before WAR many teams chose defence over offence when it came to certain positions like 2B, SS, CF, C. So trying to say he's essentially worthless because of his OPS is something you should know better than to do Ken.

Rosenthal is right. Vlad will sign a FA contract going into his age 27 season. Soto signed his FA contract going into his age 26 season. Vlad will be 27 before he plays his first game of that contract, Soto will play the entire first season of his contract with the Mets at 26.
