I have a few 500s. My '96 CR was $2500 in brand-new condition I bought off of another soldier when I got out of the Army. My '88 CR500 was bought locally from the classifieds in the local paper for $600. It ran and rode, but it was rough. My '97 KX500 was feom the same guy at the same time, for $1400, in better shape than the CR, but not near as good as my '96. My '83 YZ490 I bought off of my best friend for $300, and it was partially in a crate. It took a lot to get it right. My CRs and KX Ive has for allmost 20 years. Had my YZ for about 10. Keep an eye on your frame. 89-93 had issues with the frame cracking (it was very thin-walled tubing they used for the frame). It was signifigantly reinforced in '94 - up. You can upgrade the suspension with '96-up forks and triple clamps, and a '97-up shock.

@@jimmy_dirtbike Great story, Also you got a new subscriber here just found your channel, My son has a couple of YZ 465s and they're very fun to kick, I'm 64 years old now, And with a little starting fluid I can crank both of them still, Keep up the good work and making videos, I'll keep watching,

@@charlesshort4287 I’ve always wanted to ride one of those 465s, I heard they’re better than the yz490! Had the chance to get a WR500 a couple years back and kick myself to this day I passed on that restoration opportunity. I appreciate it so much, brother! I love making content for the folks who appreciate these old bikes as much as I do! Folks like you keep me motivated!! Thank you again!

@@jimmy_dirtbike Thanks for your reply, The YZ465 were only made for 2 years 1980 and 81 being the better year, If you don't kick them just right you can break the case, But it's easy welded where it breaks, normally you don't have to replace the case, Also the bikes are so fun to ride being a mono shock, Also you can bore the 465 out to a 490, And the 1st year 490 cylinder will fit on the 465, Me and my son love all the vintage dirt bikes from the big bores down to the 50cc, And also you can't beat them Honda's, My son just bought a 87cr125, every thing new in the engine, and it came with a 87 parts bike, And in my sons collection he also has a 82cr250 and a parts bike, also a 87,92,94,96,98,and a2001 all cr250's, He also has a 96,98,01,06, cr80/85, And that's just the Honda's that he owns, He has no cr500's yet, He almost had one, He wants the 1st 2 years and the last 2 years, And if he gets any year in between is just a bonus, I've rode a few CR 500s, And still prefer the YZ over the CR's, But the Honda's are very nice looking bikes, We're just down here in Florida having fun, Thanks again for your videos and time, Thanks Pensacola,

@@yamaharaptor01able 1993 is a great year… I love the graphics! I’m really on the fence about it. I’ve got a 91 that’s 99% done and an 86 cr500 I’m rolling full steam on now that I got the frame back from powder coating. I’d love a 2001 next!!

@@Workerbee-zy5nx CR500s all came with iron sleeved cylinders from the factory 😉 I’m not sure yet! I’m not probably just going to sit on it for a bit. I’m knee deep in an 86 cr500 resto right now! Look forward to a video on that one soon!!

@@jimmy_dirtbike Y'all welcome. I owned and raced a really nice 84 500r, and it was a hoot. Ran it on VP racing gas mixed with my all time favorite oil Maxima 927 and it smelled sweet as honey. You can get awesome air time on those big bores jumping double jumps. 🤠👍🏴🇺🇸
