Alex, acknowledging just how big and long the Yellowstone is, it is just a testament as to how much quality material can be found when you, Katy, Theo, Kim and who knows how many more are all finding such stunning material.

Don't left people get to you about what you call things. You can always do what Michigan Rocks does and call them maggots. (maybe agates). Love the music you choose!

Love the wood n jasper!!! We dont get much of those mixed cool stones in Upper Michigan, though the superior aggates are awesome here!!

Absolutely love jasper and chert. I love banded chert over plane though. I have found some really beautiful pieces here in Michigan along the lake shores. I too take trash i find while rockhounding.

Really enjoying all the videos. Great to see you picking up the rubbish. I picked a tape cassette out of the river the other day. The tape ribbon was floating all down the river. Some poor trout might have gotten caught in it. Love the Jaspers, the yellow stone river looks beautiful. Hi from New Zealand 😊😊

Love the agates and chalcedony finds. Do you sell pieces? I’d love a few.
@AgateAngler4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fiona, I do occasionally send out packages, however I am backlogged right now, so it will take me a while to get around to all of the orders. I am balancing grad school as well as my family with the rock hunting, so sending rocks is low priority for me unfortunately.

I see guys busting down jasper to see if they can flint knap it. Couldn't you take a big piece of jasper and whack it? (Like the one you said was too big to take home). #1 Might be something awesome inside #2 make any good pieces more carry-able?

Ahhhh! Dont cut it open yet (10 min) ! Lol, again not being a pain in the butt, but after you clean it do the acid soak for 1-2 weeks, rinse, let sit for 1-2 weeks and view it. See how much it clears up and decide to either soak again or then do the cutting lol :) Let me know if you did cut it already and if you have a video so I can see the inside and get ideas for some of mine. Thank my friend! Chris

Amazing hunt! Incredible finds! For what it’s worth, I think it is fine to say you are enjoying social distancing/quarantine. I am, and I also love people. As I understand it, both agate (translucent) and jasper (opaque) are forms of chalcedony. Agates usually form in voids in host rocks (usually volcanic) layer by layer, from the outside in or the bottom up, or both. If the minerals introduced vary as the void fills with chalcedony, the agate will have bands or lines visible. Blessings!
@AgateAngler4 жыл бұрын
Well said! That was my initial understanding of agate/chalcedony/jasper, etc , but I've noticed some others referring to plain, featureless chalcedony nodules as simply chalcedony and not agate. Not like it really matters. IT is all absolutely beautiful! Thanks for watching and have a good weekend!
@trippingonrocks11654 жыл бұрын

Great stuff AA : Love this new spot, hope you are able to go back again and again. Have to remember translucent /opaque neither are crystal clear -- IE part of what makes up chalcedony and it comes in so many colors :Blue, Black, White, Purple, Green, Pink, Red, Grey, Yellow, Orange, Brown. One way I am changing the way I look while hunting is to look for anything that is up to opaque with that whitish material attached. I say this cause it has opened my eyes to soo much more to include silica in browns. I have found a smaller gray agate one day and the next a brownish one Thanks so much for all you do with the videos. I truly want to go to your neck of the woods to hunt some day
@AgateAngler4 жыл бұрын
I should be heading back out there on Friday. I agree with your advice. You have to look for that specific agate texture, and it will guide you to the good finds. Thanks for watching!
@KatyDidRocks4 жыл бұрын
Just go for it, Alex, call it an agate - don't worry about the stinking banding, that's just outsiders harshing our buzz. :D
@AgateAngler4 жыл бұрын
Haha..... I have not been harassed. Just did a little reading.
@KatyDidRocks4 жыл бұрын
Hahah, "Quasper." But usually the quaspers are white and red - Quartz + Jasper. So the first one was what I would call a jaspagate. :D Um... I know there is a lot of discussion about whether Montana agates actually qualify as agates at all. But dendritic agates are formed by the same processes, and since Montana Moss Agate is one of the Montana state gemstones, I'm going to keep calling it that.

That chalcedony you found at 1:57 had a beautiful rock just to the right of it. I am sure it was ( just a rock 0 but it was sure interesting and very pretty. I saw so much that was not chalcedony or jasper on that beach. I would have weighed 90 pounds more just with those. Another good vid. Stay safe and havagudun my friend.

I'm always scared that I'll see something amazing that I missed while I'm editing these videos, so it's highly likely that I missed something cool. There is just way way too much good stuff on the Yellowstone. Take care my man!

@KatyDidRocks4 жыл бұрын
OK, so, just to clarify - if it is clear, I would definitely call it chalcedony. If there is any moss, banding or ribbons, then go for it and call it an agate - haters be darned. :D LOL, I'm feeling feisty today. LOL, by the end you were doing that - I'll shut up now.
@AgateAngler4 жыл бұрын
Oh you're too funny Kate.
@robertbradford34614 жыл бұрын
Let me tell you something that amazed me when I found out, ya? Chalcedony takes many forms and is called many things depending on these forms. Opaque chalcedony is called jasper, chert, or Flint depending on where youre from or educational background. The clear version of chalcedony is called agate, like Carnelian
@winnievanorden14 жыл бұрын
