The1994 Earthquake and flood left Hollywood Cemetery in terrible shape.
I'm Scott Michaels - thanks for watching. I own Dearly Departed Tours in Hollywood and the original Celebrity Death webpage, Findadeath. I've been doing this for 25 years - my collection of one-of-a-kind death related artifacts includes the legendary Jayne Mansfield Death Car.
I hope you enjoy these videos enough that you'll consider supporting the channel and donating a couple of bucks a month to keep it updated with new content.

I love Scott’s postings!!! Met him once before one of his dearly departed tours. He was so down to Earth 🌍! Went with a group of friends who were from LA. We were blown away by the tour and facts and stories we learned about celebs lives and deaths. 💀 They took us to a cemetery. My friends had never been to it despite having lived in LA their entire lives. I highly recommend taking a trip to LA to go on his tour! His tour alone makes the trip worth it!

I have noticed that when cemeteries get full. They have no more income. Then the maintenance goes downhill. Very disrespectful for all who live there.

They do not invest some of the big bucks they get from taking care of the dead for the future care ..they take the money hand over fist and in 50 years or so the entire place looks like a shit hole..

steveloan56--Not quite. A family can have their loved one's grave cared for in two ways: annual care and perpetual care. Annual care provides the cemetery with yearly funds. Perpetual care is supposed to be a cemetery account, the interest of which provides an income to care for loved ones' graves for the rest of time (supposedly). However, communities change over time. Families experience diaspora s children and grandchildren grow up and move on. When there is no one showing up at the cemeteries to check on the maintenance, the caretakers get lazy/lax. When a small town finally dies (like the coal towns of NE PA), then cemeteries are neglected and fall into ruin. I have been told that there is a cemetery in NE PA that is slated to be moved so that a coal company can mine the coal vein beneath the site. No one seems to know what will happen to those graves. Most of my family/ancestors are interred there., as are the families/ancestors of the people with whom I grew up all those decades ago.

Just to find out yrs later i wasn't necessarily any good at recording, they just didn't want to hold the damn cinder block themselves lol.

I lived in LA at the same time, during the earthquake, and used to wander around here many times. I remember the yellow stained glass ceilings being broken, and the vaults practically hanging open because the covers had come loose and were sitting crooked. It was so sad to see what disrepair everything was in there. Although I am not a fan at how commercialized the place has now become, I am grateful for the new company who came in and fixed everything and gave these people stories and a dignified place to be visited. Who knows. Maybe these people still enjoy a good party. But it's weird. Thank you for sharing.

I was stationed at Fort Ord, Ca. when the earthquake hit on top of a hill or mountain whatever it was, there was a large stadium below. I watched the big tall lights swaying back & forth. There was a guy trying to drive a car, that was zig zagging back & forth. There was a guy for some reson at the front door just standing there, if the building had caved in ...that wouldn't have been good. For days afterward there were after shocks. I had a video on it, loaned it to someone and of course never got it back but I'll never forget this white car was under the long bridge that collapsed...all you could see was the trunk, a huge block of concret was on top of what was the car. Whom ever was inside never knew what hit them. ..May they all rest in peace that died that day.💖💔💖

This cemetery was badly neglected for decades, long before the Northridge earthquake. At some point, the strip of lawn between the cemetery walls and the street was sold off for commercial development, further cheapening the feel of the place. New owners eventually took over and the last time I was there in around 2000, it seemed to be in a better state of repair. The owners have generated additional income by turning the place into an event location and by actively encouraging TV and movie filming. Not sure I would want my loved ones' final resting place turned into an outdoor movie theater or location for social events, but that's what they've done.

Hello Scott: My son and I took your Manson tour about a month ago and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I worked in Hollywood for over thirty years on TV shows and I thought of a story you may be interested in. One of the shows that I worked on was “Mama’s Family” for two seasons. One of the creators of that series was a guy named Dick Clair who had been a sitcom writer for some time and also on Carol Burnett Show. Anyway when he died he put in His will that he be frozen at that place in Pasadena . Years ago I ran across a detailed account of exactly what happened from the moment that he died. Anyway he was scheduled to receive a lot of royalties from things that he had done over the years. His relatives who were to share in his will became really pissed when they found out that those funds would be used to take care of his head or whatever was left of him. Perhaps you may find this interesting. Please delete this after you read. JC

SM, watching a few of your videos lately, and noticed that you commented on having a jillion photos, films and other stuff all jammed onto your computer hard drive. (I assume you meant only one computer.) Rather than hear you later sadly lament how you lost all of that via some sudden electronic mishap one day, I figured it was very important to warn you NEVER to permanently store all those precious eggs in one basket. You really should convert all of them to disk, and label them. It keeps your puter powder dry and leaves it running like a top without all that other jazz in the way. Of course disregard my dull and boring advice if you have already done so or plan to, but if not then grab a bunch of blanks and start clearing out that drive!

Most likely, as a practice, cremation has always been a big thing in California.

I'm going back to the dust of the earth. Really don't matter how I get there. Minute I take my last breath my soul gone to be with the father. No amount money, fancy crypt. Or expensive service is going to change that. Its 2020 funeral cost is way out portions.with covid-19 pandemic mostly graveside service. Funeral home still get paid. It cost us to be born and it cost more when you die. Denver your loved ones while they live because what remains just the house that held the soul.you won't need it.let me go don't spend lot Monet put what remains in box in hole in ground. Laugh, don't cry, celebrate the life I lived be glad I'm gone. Things are getting worse. Love and positivity n.j.:-)
