What an interesting video, Paul. Brought back so many memories of being in school. I was horrible in Math, to the point I would cry trying to do my homework but not understanding anything. Didn’t help that my twin brothers excelled in the subject. One went on to be a Chemical Engineer and the other a Software Engineer. But, I had a wonderful teacher in 4th grade who would help me to understand. Honestly, he took the time to lift me up and offer encouragement. During an Open House at my school he told my parents I was the “sunshine of his classroom.” Had the car window not have been closed when my Mom told me I would’ve floated away. I am more comfortable with Math now yet no expert, and that’s okay. I (and so many of us) learn a lot from you. I bet I could do those knots you tie all the time! All the struggles we go through, well, that’s just God polishing us like a rock so we can be smooth and shine brighter. God Bless You!

Speaking the truth Paul. I too was written off as a kid. Had continuous psych analysis and an entire teaching faculty that did nothing to even try and understand me. Quite the opposite, they encouraged bullying. As an adult I have adopted 3 thrown away children. I learnt to heal myself by healing, loving and nurturing them, just as I should've been. My eldest is now a father himself.The Lord makes us all different for a reason. As you say "it's our superpowers". You nearly brought tears to my eyes. My heart goes out to you Paul. You ARE amazing.

Paul, greetings from chilly Southern California! Such an interesting commentary today. As a retired teacher of 40 years, I want to apologize for the generation of teachers you came in contact with back in the 60s and 70s...the education system has been very slow to recognize that children learn at all different stages and degrees. Because I was someone who reading came easily to, it was not until I became a teacher with my own classroom, that I realized just how serious the reading crisis was with children in my care. My second year as a 5th-grade teacher allowed me to have as one of my students a world champion (at the time) dirt bike racer who had traveled all over the world, had a room full of trophies, and couldn't read. With the backing of his parents, I was able to get the administration to allow me to encourage him to read using comic books...and guess what? It was a successful "experiment" that I remember to this day! I tried during my career to take each child as an individual and to see to their needs. Obviously, class sizes being what they have always been (32+ students) I have not always been able to do that, but I tried to "bend the rules" when I could. I am happy to say that I am still in close touch with almost a dozen of my former students. Anyway, I am glad that you were able to do well in the military and with music. The Lord knew this about you and guided you even if you didn't realize it at the time. Bless you and thank you for sharing.🙏🙏💖💖
@ScrapPalletManАй бұрын
I am beyond grateful that there are teachers like you. Ironically I became a technical trainer for the last 3 years of my military service and I loved teaching. We weren't supposed to call it teaching We were only supposed to call it training. But the school that I was teaching was 5 months long. That is where I learned to love communication.

I think you look better without the goatee . So thankful to hear your story and am glad you hung in there. We have a grandson who was not interested in school and struggled. He finally went and got his ged which was better for him. I helped him out a lot and did a lot of praying and others along with me. Struggled to keep a job and now married with two children. I am so proud of him even when it gets tough he keeps going. He always calls me to check up on me and I never thought he would be the one to be that way! Love and prayers do great things💕🙏

Nice video, Paul! I enjoy hearing your stories...it reminds me we are all not perfect and we each have our own issues and stories. There are plenty of things in my past I wish I could redo! I lost my mom when I was 13..she was only 33...so you can imagine the bouncing around and emptiness that ensued. Anyway, l had replied to a prior video and asked you to please keep me in your prayers as I'm having neck surgery in the morning. It would mean the world to me. I'm having two areas fused and am hoping for a fast recovery as I don't like the thought of being laid up for the holidays. We had our Thanksgiving yesterday as I know I won't be well enough in 3 days to cook😊 It sounds like we are close in age, Paul. Here you are with two college-aged kids and mine are in their mid 30s-early 40s and l have 7 grandkids...the oldest is 21 and youngest is 4. I can relate to how tough it is to parent....but l truly enjoy being a grandma! I hope things get better for you. I'll be mailing something to you once I'm on the mend. Your videos have helped me through many sleepless nights! All the best to you!😊

I was a teacher with 35 students in my class. I had students who were “gifted” and needed more challenging materials and activities. I had students with dyslexia, dwarfism, bi-polar, hearing impairments, “normal” kids, ADD/ADHD, asthma, severe allergies, neuro-divergent, etc. all in one class. It was impossible to meet all of the needs of all of the children every day. I’m sorry you had a teacher or teachers that belittled you and parents who didn’t know how or chose not to parent you. But, you are an example of overcoming these challenges. Good for you.

Thank you for speaking from the teacher perspective. I can't imagine the pressure you would be under a 6 to 8 hours a day. Everyday. Every year. It's like me making a thousand videos, I'm going to say a few things that are just wrong or inconsiderate or off. When I became an instructor teaching the electronics at the weapons school in the Coast Guard, they were all adults. I can't imagine having the responsibility of kids. Thanks again for your perspective

You are the male version of me. I was a very messed up kid. I burned a school bus down at age 5. I didn’t want to school. I may have read 5 books cover to cover. Still struggle to read especially aloud. I’m dyslexic, ADD etc… I was considered one of those throw away children. My mother tried to be present but, my alcoholic father’s lack of responsibility made my mother have to have two and sometimes three jobs. It made it difficult for her to be around. I had little to no supervision. God has plans for me and you. 58 years old and still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I did graduate high school a year later than I should have. My mother passed my junior year of high school. I guess that’s why I love watching you. I relate so much. I worked in the medical field in some form or fashion for 32 years. Imagine that. So, I’ve never had children due to illness. I’ve heard that raising children is like trying to nail jello to a tree. Kudos to those who manage to raise them.

Have almost enough credits for my bachelor degree. But at 79 I’m not interested raised 2 children by myself. One is mentally challenged the other served 31 navy. He didn’t read til he was 9 & then only because of a dedicated teacher like you reading for him is still a problem. But I consider all I’ve been through God has richly blessed me.

Paul, the more you talk about attention deficit the more I believe I have been undiagnosed . My sister got all the awards and prizes in school but it wasn't until I was much older that I found out I wasn't stupid like I had felt all those years . When my Mom passed I came across papers from testing we had and found out my IQ was higher than my sister ,but the least thing would distract me. I was also hyperactive which my Mom had trouble dealing with but Dad dealt with it extremely well . I had a very curious nature and would take things apart to see how they worked which was the bain of Moms existence. Dad fixed the problem by showing me if you take something apart you have to put them back together and how that is done. Cars were simpler back then and I quickly caught on how to take parts of the car apart and put them back together as well as other equipment . This was so unusual for a girl back in the 50's and 60's . Thank you for acknowledging that because a kid is different doesn't mean they are stupid. Liking the beard .Have a Blessed week . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
