Is it better to grade pre-war cards like this with SGC or PSA?
@johnsmanycollections466210 ай бұрын
SGC is PSA now, right? But to answer the question they look better in a tux imo.
@JunkWaxHero10 ай бұрын
@@johnsmanycollections4662 they’re both owned by the same company but not merged (yet).
@ACD199410 ай бұрын
SGC imo. A lot of pre-war cards are likely been trimmed and altered. I think both companies have made some mistakes when it comes to have giving an assigned grade to one that shouldn't have, but between these 2. SGC. They focused on vintage from the beginning.

About 7 years ago we renovated our 1857-era house. The only things we found of note were an 1898 Boston and maybe railroad schedule and an 1898 Indian head penny buried in the walls

John's collection had 3 1913 Fatima Team cards (T200) but none from the set in the video. One of the team cards included Casey Stengal's first card in a pro uniform. They were cool because the bat boys were included on the team photos.
@JunkWaxHero10 ай бұрын
Very cool! I almost talked about T200 in this video but decided to keep it shorter.

I one time I found 100's of '81 topps Coca cola Phillies cards in cello packs scattered all over the floor of an abandoned warehouse in the 90's. Most were warped by water damage, but I kept a few of them over the years. I also had a pack of unopened Pokemon cards from '99 fall out of an old notebook I kept since high school. I don't even remember putting it in there, but sure enough it landed on the floor about two years ago and I was stunned lol

Thanks for story. I actually have the Fatima Grover Alexander in a SGC Authentic. Only about 12 in SGC population. It’s one of his first cards. Very cool set.

There are hundreds of cards more rare than that Wagner including many other Wagners. I have a Fatima tin. Pretty cool.

@@JunkWaxHero oh yes. Rare cards are always interesting to me. But a 1981 Nolan Ryan sells for more if it has a 10 on the flip 😂

I get my diamond matchbooks graded by psa, I've been sending a request for them to add the 34 silver boarder baseball set to the registry.

I heard recently that they’re not adding anything new for a while. Too backed up
@ASMRPeople10 ай бұрын
@@JunkWaxHero Sounds true. I've requested the diamond matchbooks for a couple of years, but have not in a while. It's one of those things where I wish the collectors could help out. It's a complicated set the best checklist are probably collectors excel docs.
@larrygitlin601710 ай бұрын
When it comes to early sets like this, I do not think it matters if it is SGC or PSA. I preferred as of late SGC as the grading is more consistent but see how things go now that Collectors Universe owns them.

I definitely prefer my pre war cards to be graded by SGC over PSA due to consistency in grading and appearance. SGC has the top 3 highest dollar sales in pre war cards so I'm not sure that PSA is bringing better value or sales over SGC in pre war.

"You say FAT-ima, I say Fa-TEEM-uh, Let's call the whole thing off!"... SGC is just plain better for vintage... the number of vintage cards that I've gotten back from PSA where the grades don't compute is much, much higher than with SGC...
