Just pointing out the potential flavour chaos of using Fishing Pole to make a fish. Who then gets equipped with the Fishing Pole and uses that to summon more friends over subsequent turns. 🎣 🐟 🐟 🐟

Fishing pole is word than it looks even, the pole taps to get a counter but only makes a fish when the creature untaps, so you need a tapped creature to survive to your turn and be a deck that wants to make 1/1s slowly

The activated ability on the pole does actually tap the creature, so you don't need to tap it via combat or anything is that's what you're implying. The ability has the tap symbol as part of the cost, and the fishing pole gives the ability to the creature, so the creature is tapping for the cost. You can keep the creature back for blocks and use the ability at the end of your opponents turn to get the fish.

@PorygonPowahZ thanks for clarifying, that makes way more sense, have to admit the card seems needlessly complex for a weak effect in a core set that will see limited play in limited (pun intended) but I do love the flavor.

thx for review, one thing though you mention Inspiring Paladin not being that good but having looked through the set there's a decent amount of +1 counters in white and loads if you go into green also so I think it's a better card than you may think

Do you think that being a set without that many etb, and more when attacks, could the boots not be crap?

Interesting to think about playing it with the Duskmourn Overlords

I don't think secluded courtyard is an F. I think it is decent for splashing a creature, if you..: - ..have no fetch for basics - ..need to play more than one off-color land - ..splash multiple creatures in different colors - ..the splashed creature shares a creature type with a couple of creatures in your color That said I would go for a synergy C-. (Also there is 25 humans in the set, so maybe once in a while a Wr or Wu deck includes more than 10 of them.)

Yeah I agree. In constructed I used to have it in decks that were creature heavy and you could pretty reliably just use it to name whichever creature was in your hand at the time, and then you would likely draw whatever land colour you were missing later. You can use it to splash as mentioned (as long as it's not your only splash colour source). Don't think it's unplayable, but definitely not going to prioritise it.

Actually, I think the combat change affects limited the most as limited is the format where pump spells are used a lot. The rule change affects how you use pump spells especially on defence
