My sister said that she named the children boy and girl because the entity/demon/monster will call them by their name but they don't have one so it will be harder for the entity/demon/monster to get them.

Interesting idea, but not likely. If you call your dog ; dog that is still its name, that is what it will respond to. Same with the children. I think this is more about the mother not wanting to take responsibility; she never really wanted children, at least that is what she was trying to convince herself. The reality was that they meant absolutely everything to her, the proof being that she was doing everything in her power to protect them even at birth. Further example of this would be her inability to choose one child's life over the other. Not naming them was more of a coping mechanism, thinking that it would hurt less loosing them if they didn't belong to her. By naming them was recognition of her parental status and her true feelings of how much she loved her children.

When Tom is telling her she is wrong for not having named them she is visibly hurt by his comment and says, "Everything I have done is for them. Everything." I think not giving them hope or names was intentional to make them more likely to survive. It was all meant to dehumanize and harden them. Her refusal to get emotionally close to them was selfish to protect herself if they died. When the babies are first born you can see her love for them but seeing everyone else die took her hope and therefore built her walls. Those walls are dropped and her hope returns when they reach safety. After all, she does still teach them survival. It's also revealed early in the movie she was raised by a hardcore survivalist who was cold and distant. She resented her father for it but Olympia makes her realize the way she was raised is likely why she has survived.

I’m not sure but when I watched the film I thought Charlie sacrificed himself because he had seen the creature/monster. In the scene his expression is like “o shit” and then he yells “F U C K” as if he realised what he had done and understood he was going to die and thought it was better for only him to die and not the whole group?
