I wish there was another version of the movie where we didn’t see anything about the facility and it just starts off as a typical horror movie but then the big twist is that everything was being controlled by the facility. I loved how it was executed but it would be cool to see the twist not shown. Edit- I think some people are missing the point of this comment, idgaf if the movie is perfect how it is, I WANT to see a version of the movie that doesn’t show the stuff going on behind the scenes until the end. Don’t care if that would make the movie worse or better because that isn’t the point. I’m not asking for the existence of the original version to become extinct, I just want two versions. Tbh I’d like for this movie to have multiple different versions, showing how different the night could have ended for the characters. Even if that means that the whole meaning of the film is ripped away just for my pleasure of watching it from a different perspective. I’ve seen the original. I want more content. Therefore I want multiple different versions of a movie I’ve seen many times already. Same goes for any other movie I feel passionate about.
@deviantanomaly4 жыл бұрын
I think the movie is considered one of the all time greats because of this. It’s not the typical “Here’s a horror scenario, people die, plot twist, resolution.” It dipped it’s toes in playing with the 4th wall by letting us know that this facility exists from the very beginning sparing us from a plot twist and having US be the “ancient” ones expecting the typical horror movie. A movie that doesn’t rely on a plot twist is SUPER rare nowadays but this one was well made.
@AwesomeAj444 жыл бұрын
Deviant anomaly yea I like that the way they did it it just would have been nice to see how it would have been if it was a big twist. I like being shocked and I felt that would have been the biggest twist to me.
@umachan92864 жыл бұрын
But that would be a lame twist if it more or less ended there. What I would suggest is you get this twist halfway through. Have the typical setup and story of five people go to a cabin but at the one hour mark have somebody who's not the final girl survive and walk away, fade to black, credits start to roll people wonder what the hell is going on and why was this movie so short? Then the film would cut back to the guys in the control room commenting on how they didn't get it right this time. The cabin is reset and another group of young people show up. This time we see what's going on from the facility's POV inter-spaced with the same events happening in the cabin but this time with different people. And then people would just compare it to this movie and say they ripped them off and "Cabin in the Woods" did it better.

There is a fan theory I read that claims Joss Whedon’s universes are all connected. And it’s cool. So Buffy is slaying vampires and Rossum Corp is running their Dollhouse and then Cabin in the Woods’ ending is what triggers the apocalypse to send whatever is left of humanity into space, eventually causing the world of Firefly to happen. And River Tam is a vampire slayer of the future that The Alliance kidnapped in order to try and control a Slayer of their own.

I totally agree because I've heard that too and if you really think about it, the movie does direct the characters that way because Marty wasn't the fool. 1) he was able to evade the use of the marijuana and 2) Dana was proven to make mistakes right from the beginning because she wasn't a virgin and shows a lack of common sense within the first 10 minutes of the movie. Whereas Marty falls into the trope of the Virgin, he's the fifth wheel and he is not driven by sexuality he's driven by pot. There is a multitude of evidence that proves he's not a fool. Throughout the movie he's figuring all this stuff out, while Dana is making the worst possible choices throughout the movie, even at the end when she's convinced by the director that Marty needs to die. This wouldn't have finished the ritual because Dana was the fool! The ritual was going to fail no matter what.

Assuming that they themselves can make worlds, they destroy the previous world as it has no significance for them anymore (they failed the ritual). It's symbolic of how the audience would no longer bite into movie studios' products when all of the films that they are producing are shit and not enjoyable. You guys are aware that the ancient ones are supposed to be horror fans. Like when Marty gets pulled of screen, the ancient ones are rumbling because they (the audience) did not see Marty get killed which is a trope in horror that any character you don’t see die off can be considered still alive or have the ability to come back later. You see this a great deal in slasher movies at the time the movie was made.
