I think the randomizer fits very well with the narrative. The more you go down the Eldritch madness and gain more insight, the more enemies & items should be out of place because you're becoming more insane.

Maria is indeed a fun fight but remember laurence popped up twice and we see Chalice bosses too. Its possible that lady maria is somewhere in the chalice dungeons as some super OP or super weak boss.

The Gascoignes makes it look like in the original idea you'd have momments in the game where you'd be helped by npc hunters, and them later you and the boys would storm the Nightmare of Mensis, this would've been so interesting to see through.

Fun story, Lawrence's "transformation" isn't actually a separate model, they just change his moveset and how the model interacts with the environment. This was evidenced in your Witches of Hemwick fight, where he went into phase two despite the witches not having a form change.

Honestly of the 4 bosses you could've had, you rolled pretty generously on some beginner enemies or low threat bosses. Of course the scaling makes the more aggro ones a nightmare but, still pretty lucky IMO compared to like, Kos Amygdala Maria Ludwig or something.

You know it is kind of interesting that Papa G is allying with you a lot more often. Maybe lore wise as everyone starts to lose their minds he starts to have a better clear state of mind. The beginning of the game he starts losing his mind becoming a beast. What if with the randomizer and how it's bringing him back a lot he's going backwards. Becoming less of a beast and more of himself hence why he's assisting you more often even in the nightmares.

During the living failures fight, I find a lot of people make the same mistake and just Spam their Dodge roll, whereas if they were to just keep up a continuous Sprint, without locking on you have so much more mobility. A Dodge roll only has a certain amount of I-frames and now you're locked into that trajectory but with sprinting you could turn on a dime thanks to bloodborne mobility.

At the risk of being that guy: nearly everybody mispronounces 'Cainhurst'. It's a German word, so the diphthong should take the sound of the second vowel. Long 'I'. English speakers know (usually) how to pronounce the word 'ein', but they may not realize that in German the diphthongs 'ai' and 'ei' sound exactly the same.

I'd forgotten how annoying the hub was in this game. Compared to their other games, where you can lvl up and fast travel via the bonfire, you always need to go back to the hub area to do both. I understand why they went this direction (primarily due to story reasons) but still find it annoying after a while.

That's Father Gascoigne, a summonable phantom AND bossfight from the start of the game. You're normally only able to summon him for the Cleric Beast bossfight, assuming you didn't kill him already. If you did kill him, he can no longer be summoned for the Cleric Beast bossfight. There is also only one normally. The randomizer just did its thing here.

my only gripe with Fromsoft is it's refusal to create a new game engine: they have basically been using modified versions of the dark souls engine now for 8 or 10 years and it's showing it's age. Bethesda were the same right up until starfield. Fromsoft can create some of most stunning games ever in terms of scope and design of levels but visually and mechanically the engine isn't up to it any more. AC and Elden Ring were both amazing games but the visuals tell the story of an old game engine stretched to it's maximum limits... Fromsoft arent hurting for cash so it's really a case of them biting the bullet and moving on. Look at bluepoints remake of Demon Souls; that's what Fromsoft should be aiming for in 2023 and beyond.

Developing a new engine is extremely difficult, on top of being resource intensive and requiring devs to relearn everything. If implementing a new engine hinders their ability to craft the games they want to make like it is with a lot of unreal engine games nowadays, it's a hard pass for me. Graphics don't mean shit to me, they amount to less than 0.1% of value when playing a game so I'd much rather have them continue the way they're making games, regardless of whether or not it looks generations behind visually. Even in cases like Re Engine, which is unanimously seen as one of the best game engines in the market, it's still fundamentally just a heavily modified version of M.T frameworks, an engine which was made in 2006.
