Four dead, many injured in Ohio Turnpike crash Friday

Recovery efforts are underway after a fatal crash involving dozens of vehicles closed a portion of the Ohio Turnpike in both directions Friday afternoon.

I’m a truck driver and was near the accident. Was stuck in the same spot from 12pm to 12am. Visibility was bad due to blizzard and people driving fast when it’s hard to see 5 feet in front of you. I’m glad I drove slow and was able to react as soon as I saw cars and trucks stopped ahead.

I’m a truck driver as well and I lost count of how many times I’ve seen 4 wheelers blow past me only to see them in a ditch, stretched out across the guard rail or smashed into a highway divider a few mins later. On the commercials when u see your suv driving in the snow ……on the bottom in small letters it says professional driver….closed course. My prayers for all those lost and my rebuttal for those living like truck drivers are the problem

There needs to be a mandatory federal law that dictates speed limits need to be restricted to 25mph or less (including freeways) during snowy conditions, and if people are unhappy with that, then they can stay home.

Mike, take this one step further. The Ohio State Highway Patrols is to blame for this atrocity. Semi trucks should not be allowed on freeways when its snowing, make these idiots take the side roads where they are forced to slow down. These trucker clowns drive way too fast, they tailgate and they cut people off. Ridiculous how fast they are driving in this video, they're all reckless. A car or small SUV doesn't stand a chance in a situation like this. No wonder so many people were killed. Stupid..

A Turnpike is just an overpriced toll road (route 80/90) that is 1,000 miles long, occasionally it is faster than the freeway trying to take 74 to 70 to 71. But when going east/west across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, it's really just those two options. And if people would stop crashing or having a burned up car or 18wheeler every 50 miles traffic might actually move at a decent speed. Not sure what year 2015-18, but there was another massive crash, they shutdown the turnpike probably 10 minutes before we got there, so we had to get off at an exit 20 miles before the crash, and got to our destination 15 hours? before they opened the road again... Just imagine a 18 mile line of traffic stuck there for 20 hours. Normal speed was like 95mph when traffic was moving, actual snow tires are MANDATORY, your all-season tires don't cut it, unless you just want to be a metal hockey puck that crashes at twice the speed a normal Nerf dart travels at. I'm kind of surprised this hasn't been turned into one of the Ohio memes yet. Somehow the traffic near Chicago usually has more cars going even faster, yet some how seems to have less accidents, maybe most drivers are just more aggressive there? Seriously, like one person spinning out would trigger a 2,000+ car pile up there in the first minute.

Every time I drive during a bad snow storm the only vehicles I see speeding and driving fast like they're invincible are usually semi's...and they happen to be ones you end up seeing upside down off the road.
