As your resident Swede: Surströmming isn't buried, no. That'll be Icelandic rotten shark 👍🏻 Also, most Swedes don't like it either, but as someone who does, I can reassure you that I wouldn't recommend eating it too much after 2-3 years of fermenting. Mainly because it starts falling apart in the can.
@The_Early_Gamer8 ай бұрын
As a fellow Swede who has eaten it, most people who eat it does so on thin flatbread with so many other things on there that you don't get much of the Surströmming flavor. Like honestly, I always see people putting butter, potatoes, onions, sourcream and chives along with it. And at that point it could be pieces of anchovy or sardine. it's inoffensive to my tastebuds personally but I'd rather enjoy fresh fish. Worst part is honestly opening the can, which many do underwater in a large pot.

Imagine being a medieval farmer. You just had your 7th child, only 3 of them survived so far, they are the new boy and two girls of 5 and 9 years of age. It's the end of autumn and due to a horrible harvest you will run out of food before the end of winter. You decide to go catch some fish, to feed your poor family. You go out every day but barely catch anything because all the fish are already hibernating and not spending enough energy to become hungry. You barely catch anything. Then you see your marker bobbing. Is it another catch? No. It's moved by the wake of encroaching danger. Led by beating drums, half a dozen ships being rowed to the shores near your house. You've only heard tales of such, but this must be raiders. You would run but there's no chance. Maybe if you give it to them everything you got they will spare your life. Though if you do then femine and the cold will kill your family. You quickly dig a small hole where you are and hide 2 fish in there. You'll come back for it when the raiders are gone and tomorrow you can have a warm fish soup. But you don't make it home. At least not unharmed. These savages are brutal and even if you point them to the direction of your storage shed, they beat you uncoscious. You wake up in your own bed with your significant other by your side. They heal you as much as they could but you can't really feel your face and constantly slipping in and out of reality. You keep talking about a hidden fish but nobody seems to understand or if they do, they think the haze of high fevers is twisting your tongue. After a while even you believe that it's something your imagination made up in a fugue state. But something in the back of your mind is trying to bring you back to that one spot on the beach. The next summer you decide to go fishing again to spend some alone time. You go back to the place where the attack happened and you see a weird mound in the distance. You go up to it and start digging. First the aroma hits you and then your fingers enter a softened meaty body. It's the hidden fish. Rejoycing that you haven't lost your mind and lived to tell the tale, you can't help but think what it would be like to eat this fish. Despite your body telling you not to do it having smelled the strong ammonia eminating from the carcas, you grab a chunk and lift it to your mouth. The flavor is so unique that you immediately imagine what it could taste like with the right fermentation process. You mind wonders what if they name the dish or the process after you. You imagine a world where everyone is eating fermented fish. A world where the entirety of existence is within reach and you could tell everyone about this invention of yours. You imagine some kind of magics that could reach around the whole world and connect everyone. What could such magics achieve if anyone could yell and everyone could hear? A group of individuals could tell stories through words and maybe even images to anyone who would lend an ear. They would come together to imagine new worlds and talk about the happenings of their surroundings to those who could not be present. They could even talk about you. Yes, YOU! Those 4 randos, drawing silly shit, can talk about the first motherfucker who buried fish for 6 months and then ate it! Congratulations you have reached your life goal.

For Jacob's prompt, that original episode inspired me to want to make parody anime about sentient weapons. The whole focus is on the weapons, not the people who wield them. I wanted Ayako Kawasumi to voice a sword, cause she's known to voice Saber from Fate. The weapons just talk to each other about their wielders, their wielders can't understand the weapons. When the weapons try to speak, the humans just hear onomatopoeias.

To keep up with the last Heathcliff, I was really expecting a "and thats why the vet married him 1 year ago today" as the second picture, but dead family guy Heathcliff is great, too

I'd go feral for another pose challenge. Absolutely man eating wild, blood on the walls, frothing at the mouth, Hannibal Lecter feral.

As a swede, I DID NOT expect Drawfee to start talking about surströmming. Love to be surprised!😂

Maybe another 4 Artists, one description? It's been a hot minute since we had one.

Nathan turning Drawfee into Comedy Bang Bang was a turn I didn't see coming, but now really want more of.

I liked Jacob's archer character being named "Fletcher", considering the word "arrow" in Portuguese is "flecha". It's very fitting! As usual, every drawing and every laugh is a treasure ^.-.^

A Fletcher is also and English word: the person who crafts arrows, which I assume is the reference Jacob was making. I assume that the English word and the Portugeuse word are related, though

As a swede and from the hometown of surströmming, good pronunciation Julia! Eating surströmming is a special family gathering (with the most nostalgia ) were u eat it with flatbread (tunnbröd) potatos chives and sourcream. Alcohol (snaps) is also an important part. Dad says you should only buy the ungutted version since it has the most taste. So thats a whole fish in a can . In my opinion it's the smell of home and not to bad.

17:25 I mean, most Swedes do not like surströmming. I think it's mainly eaten in the north. Also, concerning the bulging tins, at least my relatives deliberately buy tins in advance and store them until they bulge because it (according to them) betters the flavour.

I love that David's editing has been acknowledging the inanity of drawf's bits, it really makes the videos so much more fun when the editor gets in on it :)) Update: just finished a book with a character called Fletcher that used they/them pronouns, and now I'm convinced I'm in the Matrix

think that swedish fish thing is crazy? let me tell you about garum. garum was (and I believe in some places still is)a fish sauce used in ancient rome and the surrounding areas. resources say they used it on EVERYTHING and can be compared to modern day ketchup in terms of how it was used. garum was made using the leftover parts of fish that weren’t used for main course meals. the whole carcass was used in garum, so bones, eyes, organs, everything. the fish carcasses were thrown in a barrel until there was a full layer of fish, and then they poured a layer of salt over that. this continued until the barrel was full. after the barrel was full, they would shut the barrel and put it out in the sun for months, sometimes a full year, and the heat from the sun would cause the fish guts to create a bacteria that would break down the rest of the carcass, turning it into a thick liquid. the process was done when there was only liquid left in the barrel
