Cold-Case Christianity - J. Warner & Jimmy Wallace

Күн бұрын

For more information, read Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels (amzn.to/2AW8bc5)
In this episode of the Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast, J. Warner examines four popular misconceptions and misstatements about the nature of objective truth, tolerance and our over-reliance on science. If there are no objective truths (or they can’t be known) there is little reason to examine the truth about God. We need to get to the truth about truth before we can ever know the truth about anything else.

"There are no objective truths." What this means of course is that truth claim is not true. Beautiful. I love it.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life." The guy who said that resurrected himself to prove it. I'm going with what he said. Pontius Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?" Little did he know that he was staring it in the face.

@@ColdCaseChristianity I grew up in a Christian home, but didn't really find this Jesus guy until much later. Throughout my teenage years, I studied other world religions and found they all made room for Jesus. I came the distinct conclusionJesus was either who he said he was, or he was a raving lunatic. He could not be both. If he is a wise teacher that should be followed, then we must follow all of his teaching.

Aren't you a Unique Blessing, Jim Wallace! Able to defend the Bible and Truth using clear cut logic in simple readily understandable words very close to daily experience. In contrast to apologists who use heavy philosophical abstractions -- I get lost unless I look up every 7th word they say. Not belittling their approach, because it can be useful in certain circles, but your approach can affect the minds of the masses, and thereby can produce a million one dollar apologists. I pray for God to bless you, your loved ones and ministry even more! [I hope this messages reaches you.]

Inherent in the idea that all views are equal and should be tolerated is the idea that tolerance is better than intolerance, the problem is that many views hold that intolerance is better...

Thank you. 1:32 Difference between subjective and objective truth. 5:32 Lie #1 "there is no objective truth." is self-refuting. 10:20 Lie # 2 Objective truth cannot be known (proven). is also self-refuting. 12:27 to 13:46 Summary statement of first 2 lies relegates all truth as subjective. 14:20 Lie # 3 All opinions behaviors equal= Tolerance. Self-refuting when used to reject another's position. 3 D's = Difference, Disagreement, Demeaner, (Hate the lies but love the liar.) 20:26 Lie *4 Scientism or all truth must be empirically provable. (This also is self-refuting as it cannot itself be proven by science.)

Not sure but I think that the word tolerance comes from tolerate. And tolerate means to tolerate people that have different views or beliefs. At least that's what my mom told me when I was four.
@glaubenjetzt7174
@glaubenjetzt7174 Жыл бұрын
that's what Jim stated, but your view has no right automatically to be as valid as the other view. Tolerance does not mean that differing views have the same validity or worth. One can be false (truth claim) and one can be true. Neither has to accept the claim of the other, even though one is actually verifiably true and one not. Tolerance is only to listen and let him also present his view, but not to have to accept it and not not to argue/debate it, if what that person states is verifiable false, if it is and can be proven. And yes objective truth exists in almost all matters, can be verified, even some moral ones. It is a LIE that objective truth does not exist and can't be known in most cases.

He did not say all views or ideas are the same he said that all religions are equally valid basically. But it still holds true because Christianity says that is not so therefore if Christianity is equal with everything else and Christianity says it is the only way to the father is through the son who is Jesus then if he holds Christianity valid it is saying that it is the only way! You didn't say it correctly dear cold-case Christianity dude but it comes out the same either way. If I am wrong please let me know because I love listening to you guys... Speaking of Christian apologist theologians debaters and more! You are in my prayers brother. Please say one for me as I am 60, 5 years clean and walking with my Lord and I am in good spirits sometimes great but my body is falling apart. I know he can heal me but I feel confused about how to go about basically looking at the whole situation because I know that it is through grace alone and not works but I feel I need to do something to figure this out cuz I am tired of feeling like s h i t

Wow. Buddha's words really resonated with me. Imagine the millions whose lives might've been spared if ancient or "sacred" texts wouldn't have been deemed more valuable than human life or used to dominate over life. Buddha also said: "the truth is what helps." These are very life affirming words.

This hits on the typical deflections that are attempts to deny the truth of the gospel. It demonstrates that unbelief is really a moral issue and not an intellectual one. The argument for Christianity is conclusive but not effective, that is, it does not 'work' on every individual. It works on those individuals whose hearts God opens.

I disagree with your very definition of truth at 27:00 " the relation of what I believe and what is, that one on one correspondence, is called truth" That would be knowledge of truth. The absolute Truth is the very real living person Yeshua Hamashiack. He is The Truth. And He is very much "empirical" if his Holy Spirit lives in you. Do you believe in Him with a one on one correspondence? Do you know Him? One the other hand: . As wikipedia puts it. So being christian is empiricism of YHWH, and Truth science and Truth empiricism is what being a christian means.
@glaubenjetzt7174

There is no such thing as absolute truth. Either something is true or false. ;) end of story and your other unrelated statements have nothing to do with objective and subjektive truth claims.
